Welcome to the new Books and Movies

Posted By CarrieK on April 17, 2009

I’m glad you have found your way here! After months and months of more and more restrictions placed on my blogging at Today.com (tons of ads, only one template available, etc.), they have taken away the one thing that was keeping me there – the financial consideration. Unfortunately, they now own all of my archives over there, in spite of the fact that I was only paid $1 a post.

While I can’t bring my favorite past posts over here to share with you, I can start building a new home here at this domain that my husband owns. He has been working hard this week to tweak my theme to make me happy – in spite of the fact that I can be quite nit-picky. :)

The content here will be the same that you were used to at my old domain: book reviews, reading challenges, Monday’s Movies, Teaser Tuesdays and Wondrous Words Wednesdays, link posts with book-related news, giveaways, movie reviews, and other items of interest.

If you are an author, publisher, or publicist that I have worked with in the past, please be assured that I will work just as hard at my new domain to build my readership.

If you are a fellow blogger who has been gracious enough to link to me in your sidebar or to follow me on Google Reader or Bloglines or another RSS feed reader, I would be so grateful if you would change my links to reflect this new home. Because Today.com won’t let me post a re-direct link directing readers to my new blog, I would also appreciate any help you could give in getting the word out about my new home.

I’m not normally a fan of change, but new beginnings can be a good thing, right? Here’s to lots and lots of bookish talk and blogging community.

    Hi Carrie!

So sorry things didn’t work out for you. It’s even worse that you couldn’t bring your archives. I will announce it on my blog.

The new site is beautiful. And I’ll be sure to adjust the URL link on my blog.

  4. Congratulations on the new blog! It takes a lot of courage to kind of start afresh (although your readership is sure to follow), but even unpopulated it’s looking great, so you should have no worries.
    Good luck!
    Rob

    Hey Carrie -

I usually fight against change, but once I’m in that uncomfortable “new* spot, I relish in the fact that I get a fresh start. :)

    Cheers.

    Cheers!

How horrible! Makes me glad I didn’t stay there. I tried them out when I was experiencing the various blog. This was before I decided on Blogger as a permanent place. I really hope you like it here better. Looks beautiful!

I am actually not terribly worried about reusing bits of my content. Not like today is flush enough to be able to afford to do anything about it. I would have cared more if they hadn’t sent the last email and blocked my IP from the forum. Not that that had any impact LOL. If I want in…anyway I figure they will be history shortly. And then I’ll do whatever I want with my content.

  12. Joy says:

Welcome to your new home! :) You have a great attitude about this unwanted change, so much good will come out of it.

I’ve added your new url to my following list. I’d be livid to discover I didn’t own my own material. Oh well, put it behind you. It’ll just be an old memory after a few posts and your friends find you here. Take care.

Your new site looks gorgeous! I’m sure you’re going to do well here…considering all of the comments you have already!

I’m one of the Today bloggers that got booted without warning. I’ve added a Today.com Exiles blogroll on my new site, and I added a link to your blog. Hope that’s okay!

Good luck in your new home!

  30. Hey Carrie

I’m adding you do my Today.com expats blog roll. I’m sorry but I didn’t have your old blog bookmarked; could you tell me just the title of it? Feel free to e-mail it if you’d rather.

Welcome to the free world! :-)

  31. Rebecca says:

    Carrie,

I completely understand your move. I signed up for a blog and then I realized how restrictive they were and how little they were willing to even pay and decided it was not worth it. I need more freedom for creativity and so do you! I am going to put in my Marvelous Mondays post about your move to help spread the word. Lots of luck to you in your new blogging home!!

  32. CarrieK says:

Rebecca – thanks so much for helping me get the word out – I really appreciate it. :)

  33. Congratulations on the new site!

I’m sorry to hear that you lost your archives, but I’m sure you’ll build up lots of quality posts soon.

I’ll tweet about your new blog, so hopefully a few more people will find it.

Best wishes in your new blog home!

  34. You’ve got a great attitude about starting over, and lots of people are helping to spread the word. The new site looks great!

  35. CarrieK says:

Jackie – thanks – and thanks for the tweet!

Dawn – Thanks so much for stopping by. My husband did a good job on the template, didn’t he?

  36. Hope you are happy here! Change is always for the better..
