Entertainment Weekly put out it’s Summer Movie Preview issue this week, and there are a lot of movies coming this summer that I am very excited about. There are two movies to help feed my Christian Bale addiction, the next Harry Potter movie (seems like we’ve been waiting on that one forever!), and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I admit it, I’m a sci-fi geek fangirl when it comes to movies – and this summer will definitely nourish that side of me.
The movie that everyone at my house is the most excited to see is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. We live in a small, rural community, and it takes forever for movies to come to our one-screen theater. For most movies, I’m content to wait – or even wait and see them on DVD. Not this one – the kids and I will be driving to Spokane to see it on opening weekend or shortly after. They just recently released a new trailer, and it looks fantastic:
Harry Potter isn’t the only movie I’m looking forward to this summer. Here are some of the other ones that will have me lining up at the theater if finances allow:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Loved all the X-Men movies, love Hugh Jackman, enough said.
Star Trek – This could be really good or really bad. Since it’s being made by Lost‘s J.J. Abrams, I’m willing to give it a try.
Terminator: Salvation – I liked the whole Terminator series. Throw Christian Bale in as the now-grown-up John Connor, and you won’t be able to keep me away.
Public Enemies – Johnny Depp as John Dilinger, Christian Bale as the FBI agent hunting him down.
The Time Traveler’s Wife – I loved this book, and I’m hoping that since I read it a few years ago, I won’t notice if they change a bunch of stuff.
There are also a bunch of movies the kids will be wanting to see:
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – We loved the first one, and hopefully this one will be just as good.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – What can I say? I have three boys.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The first two are big favorites at our house.
Land of the Lost – I loved this show as a kid, even though the Sleestaks terrified me.

My husband and I are both so excited for Harry Potter, too!! My husband has not read the books so he has no idea what happens at the end of this book…it will be so fun to see it through the eyes of a “newbie”! I have this issue of EW and I haven’t read it yet…I must get on that right away! So many great movies :0)

Obsessed – Oh, man – I’m kind of glad that the kids and I know what’s coming at the end – I think I’d be a basket case otherwise!
I know what you mean…and at least you won’t have to console your traumatized children who had no idea what was going to happen! Can you imagine the poor parents whose children have not read the books?? Yikes! LOL! I am interested to see how this movie plays out, though. I mean, when you get down to it, there is not a whole heck of a lot of action…the whole book was spent mostly in Dumbledore’s mind! I can’t wait!!

I will definitely be seeing the Harry Potter the opening weekend. I am tempted to re-read the book again, even though I’ve already read it several times. The rest of the lineup is really good news for me and the kids with regards to summer entertainment. You can sign us up for Wolverine, Night at the Museum, Ice Age and Transformers. I just bought Time Travelers Wife, so I will make sure I read it before it comes out. (Isn’t Rachel MacAdams in that? If so, I love her.) It was definitely a good issue!

Sandy – yes, it is Rachel McAdams – she is very good, and will be excellent as Clare.
Hahahaha! I loved your comment about the three boys and the Transformers.
I imagine I’ll only be seeing the Harry Potter movie and the Wolverine movie. When I was into the comics, I much preferred the X-Men as a group to the stories about Wolverine on his own, but…well…Hugh Jackman. Guh.

The fact that the next Harry Potter is coming out has me rubbing my hands in anticipation. I suspect I’ll be there with my mom (and probably at least one of my kids) on opening weekend. As for the others, I have a girl in the middle of two boys so I’ll probably have to find a girlier movie to take her to when my husband takes the boys to Transformers, as I know he will. Night at the Museum looks good for all of us though.

Kristen – I don’t know if your daughter saw the first Transformers, but my 11 year old loved it so much she bought it (with her own money!). I’m wondering if she is too young to have a thing for Shia? I’m not exactly sure what her attraction is, as she is a girly girl, but she will be first in line for the next one!

Phyl – I agree, if Hugh Jackman’s in it, I’m so there.
Kristen – my 12yo daughter loves Transformers, but like Sandy’s daughter, I think she has a bit of a crush on Shia.
Can’t wait to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! We’ve waited long enough!!! Wolverine is another hubby and I simply have to see when it comes out too and I sure hope I can talk him into taking me to see Public Enemies too. The rest of these I plan to enjoy on DVD.

Ladytink – My hubby prefers to wait for most movies on DVD. Fortunately, he doesn’t mind if I go see a movie with my parents or take the kids if we have the money.
I thought Transformers was enjoyable – better than I expected, anyway. And did I not see that Christian Bale is also in Time Traveler’s Wife?! busy boy. Question – is the kid who plays Harry OK? I thought awhile back that he fell as was hurt and then never heard a thing again. I assume all is well? (thought maybe you’d know…) Thanks! I am looking forward to Terminator – I love the whole time travel / time shift issues.

Care – Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, is busy filiming part one of Deathly Hallows, and I haven’t heard anything more about an injury, so he must be okay. I agree about Transformers – it was better than I expected. A fun, popcorn movie. And according to Yahoo Movies, Eric Bana is in Time Traveler’s Wife. I don’t really know his work – Christian Bale would have been excellent, too – of course, I’m a little biased toward him.
Thanks for the information.
