I am really sorry for all the spam comments today! Either my new blog has been found by the ‘bots, or people think I’m bald, depressed, and have ringworm, and really need their medication. Oh, and any money I don’t spend on meds I should gamble with.
Because of the spam swarm, I have activated word verification for comments. I know a lot of you hate it, but I don’t have time to manually delete hundreds of comments every time I go online. The program I’m using is very easy to read – I promise – and as a treat, I get to put my own words in the list. So, I put some fun words in with a common theme – see if you can guess what it is!

There are a lot more of us moderating comments lately due to one spammer in particular – and the more I think about it I don’t want to put the spammer’s name out there. I think that may be what he/she is going for.

I’ve been out all day, so this spamming issue is new to me. I know you had a weird one a few weeks ago! Anyway, no worries. I type in those dumb words all the time!
I’m obsessively hitting refresh!

I think everyone is getting a bunch of spam these days…I wonder if it is bots or not.
I used to notice this with email — every now and then I’d get a huge, fresh wave. My theory was that someone had re-sold a big list of emails to a fresh crowd of spammers who had bought CD’s with the lists on them. So each time the list was sold again, I’d get a fresh round of spam for a few weeks, and then it would die down somewhat again.
(It got very amusing when half my email was in Russian. I knew which country these entrepreneurs had just sold their lists into. Ha!)
It wouldn’t surprise me if the same thing happens with blogs. I’ve noticed a whole bunch of new spam too, on mine. This is why I’ve always had a verification thing activated. People simply have to understand.

Perfectly understandable. And if it happens to mine, I’ll do the same thing.

Mary – If it was just one person, I would block the IP address, but these must be bots, cause the IP addresses are all over the place.
Sandy – I am using one that is especially easy to read, I think.
Andrea – any ideas, yet?
Serena – I’m pretty sure mine is bots, just because of the nature of the comments.
Phyl – yeah, it definitely comes in waves!
Robin – I wasn’t sure what else to do – it was driving me crazy!
At least you haven’t been hit by that imbecile “Ed” yet. I woke up one morning and had 45-50 comments and was really excited (lol) until I discovered that at least 30 of those were from a spammer and had to manually delete them all. Talk about a bad morning! He did it to several others too

Ladytink – “Ed” hasn’t found me, thank goodness!
