I fully expect to get some reading done today, as Kevin (my husband) has promised me a complete day off. The kids will help him straighten up the house in the morning. In the afternoon, my parents will join us and Kevin will grill steak and Dad will bring some yummy chocolate dessert he has baked. (My Dad is a wonderful cook, especially when it comes to desserts.)
I will spend my reading time with three books: The Blue Notebook, which I am finding very difficult to read because of the subject matter; Graceling by Kristin Cashore, which was recommended to me by a friend on Twitter; and Black: The Birth of Evil, a graphic novel based on Ted Dekker’s Circle trilogy.
This past week, I finished and reviewed Evidence: Poems by Mary Oliver, Specials by Scott Westerfeld, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I also posted a list of my favorite books about reading and writing.
What will you be reading this Mother’s Day?

That is what Mother’s Day is all about, isn’t it? I am currently at the beach, and fully intend to NOT cook today and be treated like a queen. I am about halfway through “Before Women Had Wings” by one of my favorite authors, Connie May Fowler. It is one book on my list for my Southern Reading Challenge. It is pretty dire…abused girls at the hands of their parents…and I was sure this was going to dampen my love affair for the author, but not so far. She is such a good writer! I am also about six discs into Drums of Autumn, and pretty close to finishing an audio with my kids called “The Kind of Friends We Used To Be”. I am twitching to start a book on my Kindle too. Not enough hours in the day!
Happy Mother’s Day!
