I have made it a kind of tradition to take the kids one at a time to the movies for a date with Mom. With four kids, it’s astronomically expensive to take all of them at once, so we save that for a special occasion (like the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). It was Jonathan’s turn, so he and I headed to the local theater to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It was a perfect movie for Jonathan, my nine-year-old. I had as much fun watching his reactions to the action on screen as I did watching the movie – and that’s saying a lot, cause that was Hugh Jackman up on that screen! During one scene, when we first see a group of mutants using their gifts, Jonathan kept saying, “Oh, man! Cool! Whoa!” It was a hoot.
I don’t want to spoil any of the plot by giving you a synopsis, but I’ll just say that, even though I enjoyed all three of the previous X-Men movies, I think this one out-did them all – and I’m not just saying that because of Mr. Jackman. I haven’t read the X-Men comics, so I have no idea if it followed the original idea of Wolverine’s origins, but I liked the back-story the film created. I can’t give it five bags of popcorn, because I have to reserve that for movies I feel are Oscar-worthy, but I definitely give it four.
Did you see any good movies last week?

Great review. It’s linked up!

At some point, I know we will end up seeing this. We love to go to the movies, but you are so right about the expense. I try to use coupons, or see them in the dollar theater. One time my kids, my husband, my parents and I all went to see Coraline on 3D, and the bill for the tickets alone was like $60 or $80. I almost threw up. Highway robbery it is.
I’m not an X-Men fan, but I am a Hugh Jackman fan, so I want to see this one.

Sheri – thanks!
Sandy – yes, it is – and the one-screen theater in our rural town is less expensive than what we’d pay if we drove down to Spokane, but it still costs us around $50 to $60 to all go and see the movie and have popcorn. It’s nuts!
Kathy – In my opinion, he gets a much better chance to show off his acting skills in this one than in the other X-Men movies.
I’m so glad to hear this one’s good. I really want to see it, but nobody else in the family does, I’ll probably go by myself. I think it’ll be better on the big screen!

Kelly – I like to go to movies by myself – have ever since I was in college. Sometimes it’s nice just to treat yourself. I hope you like it!
I really want to see this movie, but I’m not sure my husband is so eager. He tends to believe the reviews and since it hasn’t been getting all great ones, he’s a bit reluctant. I keep trying to talk him into it though! I am glad you and your son enjoyed the film.

LF – Maybe you can find a friend to go with instead. My best friend and I went to see The Incredible Hulk because we both love Edward Norton. We were the only females in the theater.
We went to see this one not too long ago. It’s really good!

Tink – yes, it is.
I totally agree with your review! I loved it as well, and I’m not an x-man freak, and usually like drama more than action movies. It was just enjoyable.

Kacie – Enjoyable is a perfect word to describe this movie!
