Graceling by Kristin Cashore
By early afternoon she was pacing back and forth across the camp, utterly stir-crazy. She paced, fists clenched; and Bitterblue sat against the boulders in the sun, knife in hand, watching her.

I’m in Middluns, working as an assassin and enforcer for my uncle, King Randa. He has used my grace to his benefit. What he doesn’t know is that I also lead The Council, a group of people determined to right the wrongs in the seven kingdoms. He also doesn’t know that I hate killing. (Graceling)
I’m also at River Run, South Carolina, the estate of my husband’s Aunt Jocasta. We had hoped to settle as landowners with some financial means, but an encounter with river pirates has robbed us of the only possessions that were worth anything. (Drums of Autumn, Diana Gabaldon)

I think we are about at the same place in the Drums of Autumn. Is it bad to say that I’m enjoying the Brianna parts of the book so far? I don’t know why. This is such a freaking marathon. Carrie, I ordered The Fiery Cross from the library so I could get it loaded for my trip to Poland, and I almost threw up when it arrived yesterday. 47 discs. OMG.
Nice teasers from a fantasy! Mine is from a Turkish mystery! http://www.bookbirddog.blogspot.com
Gracelings sounds good!

Sounds like you are reading some grim or dangerous books.

Sandy – no, I don’t think it’s bad to say that. I have had the same reaction – partially because I know what’s coming, but also I think it’s because Brianna and Roger are in the first throes of falling in love, which is usually more exciting to read about than a happily married couple. I can’t remember, is this your first time through the series?
Harvee & Gautami – I’ll definitely be checking your teasers out.
Margot – not grim, but definitely action-packed!
Everyone keeps telling me to read Graceling, I really need to pick it up.

Yes, it is my first time. I’ve read the synopsis of all the books awhile back, and I feel like I’m related to Gabaldon I know her writing so well at this point, so I’m pretty sure I know what is coming. I just wish she’d get on with it!
