Author info:

~ Kim at Bookstore People has the highlights of an interview with Muriel Barbery, author of The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I want to read this soon, but I have some review copies to get through, first.

~ Books on the Brain has a guest post by author Marisa de los Santos: A Little Theory of Mine.

Reviews:

~ Jen at Devourer of Books has a review of Serendipity by Louise Shaffer. I love the cover of this book!

~ Nicole at Linus’s Blanket reviews the heart-breaking memoir The Road of Lost Innocence by Somaly Mam, who has started AFESIP, a foundation to help young women sold into sexual slavery, out of the ashes of her own life’s devastation.

~ Beth at Beth Fish Reads reviews Great Dream of Heaven: Stories by Sam Shepard. I’ve read some of Shepard’s plays, but not his short fiction – I’ll be looking for this one.

~ Nicola at Back to Books reviews Clara’s War: A Young Girl’s True Story of Miraculous Survival Under the Nazis by Clara Kramer with Stephen Glantz. I’m adding this to my to-read list.

Bookish discussions:

~ Swapna at S. Krishna’s Books is starting a series on the various online book swap sites. I haven’t tried any of them, so I’ll be interested to read her thoughts on each one – maybe I’ll give it a try.

~ Michele at A Reader’s Respite has a timely post called Original Content and the Book Blogger. Great discussion in the comments, too.

~ NY Times: Some thoughts on the lost art of reading aloud. Great column.

~ Lisa at Books on the Brain has a post about blog posts and skimming. Do you prefer long or short posts? Do you read completely or skim?

Giveaways:

~ Jen at Devourer of Books has a copy of Shanghai Girls by Lisa See to give away.

~ Shelly at Write for a Reader is giving away a signed copy of The Real Real by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. She’s also holding a huge giveaway in honor of her 200th post.

~ Debbie at Debbie’s World of Books is holding a Clean Off My Desk Giveaway, with a lot of great titles up for grabs.

~ Kathy at Bermudaonion is giving away a copy of The Turnaround by George Pelecanos.

~ Kelly at The Novel Bookworm is giving away an Amazon gift card as part of her A Book a Day in the Month of May Giveaway.

~ Enter to win Joshilyn Jackson’s The Girl Who Stopped Swimming at Confessions of a Bibliophile.

~ A Reader’s Journal is giving away a copy of Bound by Sally Gunning.

~ Carol at Carol’s Notebook is giving away two audiobooks: Cemetery Dance by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly.

~ Caribousmom is giving away No One You Know by Michelle Richmond.

~ Book Psmith is giving away Trivial Pursuit: Book Lover’s Edition.

~ Dog Ear Diary is giving away a book of bookmarks.

~ Sandra at Fresh Ink Books is giving away five copies of Testimony by Anita Shreve.

~ Becky at Becky’s Book Reviews is giving away The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff.

~ J. Kaye at J. Kaye’s Book Blog is giving away Starfinder by John Marco.

~ Heather at Book Addiction is giving away Janeology by Karen Harrington.

~ Wendy at Musings of a Bookish Kitty is giving away a copy of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford.

Other bookish stuff:

~ Earlier this year, I won a membership in Jennifer’s (The Literate Housewife Review) bookmark club. Each month, I receive a beautiful handmade bookmark in the mail, along with a letter from Jennnifer about what inspired the current one. They are gorgeous, and I’ve wanted to post pictures, but I’m photographically challenged. Fortunately, Valerie at Life is a Patchwork Quilt has posted pictures, so you can see how wonderful the bookmarks are.

  1. Kim says:

Thank you for the review! I’m going to head over and look at the Shepard stories, I didn’t even know he wrote anything other than plays.

  2. Kathy says:

I really appreciate the link to my giveaway!

  3. Beth F says:

Thanks for the link to the bookmark photos. I keep meaning to do that myself. Now I’m saved a chore.

  4. CarrieK says:

    You’re welcome, ladies!

  5. I love swapping books – it makes getting new (to me) books through the post guilt free and it clears books I’ve read from my shelves too. You should give it a try!

  6. CarrieK says:

Jackie – I sell a lot of the books I don’t want to keep on Half.com, but I should try a swapipng site with the ones that don’t sell.
