The Sunday Salon – June 14, 2009

It’s been a good week of reading, but I don’t really have a lot posts to show for it. I listened to two Laurie Halse Anderson audiobooks, Twisted and Prom. I haven’t gotten around to reviewing Prom yet – I may not. I liked it, but it was a lot fluffier than Twisted, in my opinion.

I finished Back Creek by Leslie Goetsch today while I was waiting at my son’s Tae Kwon Do promotion. I loved it – a review will be coming soon. I’m about 80 pages from finishing Tess of the D’Urbervilles – finally! It’s not that it isn’t a good read, it’s just that I can only take so much sadness at one time. I’m also halfway through The Forest of Hands and Teeth, and now that Back Creek is finished, it will go fast. I plan to start The Book of Unholy Mischief by Elle Newmark next, in preparation for an upcoming blog tour.

Finishing the audiobooks helped me finish the Support Your Local Library Challenge, so that’s one more challenge down, umpteen to go.

I also posted part two of my list of favorite contemporary fiction – part three will come on Friday.

Stop by tomorrow afternoon for my weekly first lines quiz – I’ve been having a lot of fun with them, and I think my readers have, too. Of course, I’m eventually gonna run out of books I’ve read that I think will be familliar enough to other people, but we’ll have fun while it lasts.

What are you reading this Sunday?

  1. You sure dud good this week. The Mands and Teeth book sounds like a good read to me.

Although I am excited to go on vacation this Tuesday, I’m already starting to get my cold turkey shakes thinking about no Internet for two and a half weeks! The kids and I only have a few chapters left of “Savvy”, and we are hoping to finish before we leave (the question is whether I will get a review posted). I’m about halfway through the latest Lee Child audio, and have started one of my TBR books on my Kindle called “Sashenka”. I am really laying low until we leave, then expect to do some intense reading while I am away. I should have a serious load of reviews to do when I get back!

You’ve been busy. I find audiobooks to be harder to review because you have nothing to refer to or look up things in.

Gautami – thanks! Hopefully I’ll have some reviews to show for all this reading soon. :)

Sandy – I can’t wait to hear what you think of Savvy – it looks so good.

Kathy – I agree – I often find myself looking things up on Amazon or LlibraryThing to refresh my memory, esepcially if I wait too long to review an audiobook.

You had a great week of reading. Much better than me! Twisted sounds very interesting.

  6. CarrieK says:

    Belle – it was – she’s a great storyteller.

  7. You’ve been a busy reader! I am still plodding through my current read. I’ll be lucky to start on the next book by the weekend at the rate I’m reading. This is when I wish I worked at a job where I was allowed to read my books during working hours.

LF – I love summer, because I get so much more reading time when we’re not homeschooling! We spend most afternoons at the park or the pool, and while the kids swim/play, I read. Best way to spend the summer, in my opinion!
