Glyde.com – new site (plus, a coupon!)
Posted By CarrieK on June 18, 2009
Glyde is a new web site with a great idea: sell your used books, CDs, DVDs, and video games, and earn some spending money. (To buy more books, of course.
)
If you’re anything like me, you have more books than you know what to do with. My husband is continually sighing as he steps over yet another stack of books beside our bed, or next to the couch…. What do you do with your books after you read them? Sure, there are some that are definite keepers – classics, books I’ll want to read over and over again. But some books are a great read, but not titles that I think I’ll ever revisit in the future. Well, now there’s a way to pass those books on to someone who wants them, and earn a little cash in the process.
Glyde is easy to use, both for buying and selling. If you’re looking for a title, simply click on “buy” and then search for the book or movie you’re looking for. But the truly wonderful thing about Glyde is how easy it is to sell your used books. Simply click on “sell” and then enter the title of the book, CD, DVD, or video game you want to sell. List it using the pricing guidelines they give you according to the condition of the item. When it sells, you will receive an e-mail – and here’s the genius part – a pre-addressed mailer in the mail. That’s right: you don’t even have to leave your home to mail the item! Simply place the item in the mailer when it arrives and stick it in your mailbox for pick-up. Can’t get much easier than that.
Glyde is still in its beginning stages, but the catalog of items available will only continue to grow. I’ve also been told that they plan to add a way to list items by their UPC or ISBN number, which will only make the selling process easier.
Now, the cool thing is, the nice folks at Glyde have set up a one-time coupon for all of my readers. Check out the site, find something to buy, and at checkout, enter the coupon code: BooksandMovies. You’ll receive $5 off your purchase! And since these are used items we’re talking about, you can get something for next to nothing. I found a title on my to-read list, used my coupon, and only had to pay $1.52.
Let me know what you think of Glyde – and be sure and tell me about any great bargains you find!

I am so into the sound of this site! When I get back from my travels, I will have to look into it. I have an ever-growing pile of books I have read and may never read again. Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
It sounds really interesting, I’m definitely checking this out. I have plenty of books that I could do without and to make some extra cash is always good. I’m heading over to see what it’s like. Thanks Carrie
I checked it out and just bought Peace, Locomotion by Jacqueline Woodson for $2.75. And it was brand new. Thanks, Carrie. I think you should tell your readers that it’s a one-time coupon. After I bought Peace, I found another book I wanted but couldn’t use the coupon.
Sandy – I know what you mean about the ever-growing pile…
Lillly – you’re welcome, I hope you find something you like.
Vasilly – good to know – I will add it to the post.
Well, I use BookMooch, PaperBackSwap, amazon and Ebay, so I’m not sure where glyde will fit in on that, but I did sign up. I clicked sell and drew a blank on what to sell… A football? LOL… but I’ll try to get back to it and do something. I wasn’t thinking, and put the coupon code in for my password, DUH! then had to change that. I need to sleep, I think.
This sounds like a good idea. Couldn’t be much easier. I’ll let you know what happens.
Kool-Aid Mom – lol – hope you got a good night’s sleep!
Margot – cool – let me know how it turns out.
interesting idea…I tend to give mine away on my blog.
Serena – i do hold giveaways, too – especially of ARC and review copies, but after a while, the postage costs can be a killer.
This is perfect!
Both for those who want to buy books and those who need them.
I Bought a Playstation2 game a couple weeks ago, they said i would get it in no more than 2 weeks. its been 3 weeks and it hasent been shipped yet. The web site says a refund will be given. But they wont even reply to my e-mails, so they took my money and i didnt get anything for..
This web site is bull shit.. and a scam. Dont buy any thing from them, cause they’ll take your money… Stick with Ebay or amazon or something that works..
I purchased a movie on Dec. 30 & have not received it yet. They are not returning my emails either. The website says “transaction closed” & they don’t list a phone number. Not recommended!
