The Sunday Salon – June 28, 2009 (The Everything Austen Challenge)

The Sunday Salon.com

I decided to use today’s Sunday Salon to do my post for the Everything Austen Challenge.

everythingausten The Everything Austen Challenge is being hosted by Stephanie of Stephanie’s Written Word.

The details! The Everything Austen Challenge will run for six months (July 1, 2009 – January 1, 2010)! All you need to do is pick out what six Austen-themed things you want to finish to complete the challenge.

The cool thing is that the Austen-themed things can be either books or movies, and can include any of the Austen “spin-offs,” such as Shannon Hale’s Austenland or Laurie Viera Rigler’s Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict. You can pick and choose: six movies, six books, or a mixture of both – whatever works best for you!

My six Austen-related things will be:

1. Read Lost in Austen by Emma Campbell Webster – this is a choose-your-own-adventure type novel for Austen addicts!

2. Watch Lost in Austen, the mini-series.

3. Re-read Persuasion, my favorite Austen novel.

4. Watch Persuasion, the 1995 version, starring Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds.

5. Watch Persuasion, the 2007 version, starring Rupert Penry-Jones and Sally Hawkins.

6. Read Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler.

Be sure to click over to the challenge page linked above and sign up! Stephanie has helpfully posted a huge list of Austen-themed books and movies.

Other book-related posts this week:

~ Book review: Life of Pi by Yann Martel
~ Favorite children’s novels, part one
~ Book review: The Wet Nurse’s Tale by Erica Eisdorfer

  1. This challenge sounds like fun! I’ve enjoyed the books by Austen I have read so far and count her among my favorite authors. Someday I’ll actually get around to reading all her books. :-) Good luck!

    Good luck with the challenge!

I joined this one too. It’s too much fun to pass up.

  4. Michelle says:

This is a fabulous list. I’ll be interested to see how you compare all the different media of the same works. Good luck!

LF – I went on an Austen binge a couple years ago and read all of her novels – or at least the ones that she completed. I loved them all – except Northanger Abbey, which was just okay.

    Kathy – thanks!

Beth – I agree! Though I’m beginning to think I can’t pass up any reading challenge. :)

Michelle – I thought it would be interesting to see how the two film versions compare.

  6. Stephanie says:

I think I’m going to include Lost in Austen (book) on my list too – it sounds like so much fun! Thanks for joining!!
