Teen Books Everyone Should Read Meme

Posted By CarrieK on July 8, 2009

I saw this meme at Escape in a Book, and just in time – since I haven’t finished any books to review, and I don’t have any better idea for a post. :)

The following list of books teens love, books teens should read, and books adults who serve teens should know about was compiled IN ABSOLUTELY NO SCIENTIFIC MANNER and should be taken with a very large grain of salt.

Instructions:

Put an “X” next to the books you’ve read
Put a “+” next to the books you LOVE
Put a “#” next to the books you plan on reading
Tally your “X”s at the bottom

16 out of 100 – not a lot! I’m not surprised, though, since I just recently “discovered” how wonderful YA fiction can be. Let me know if you play along so I can compare answers.

I would have failed miserably with this…I read only 8 of them! I think perhaps I may have read a couple in High School, but I don’t remember them so I didn’t count them! On the other hand, like you, I have only started reading YA books with my kids. I guess I should give myself a break for a few years to get caught up!

  2. Ladybug says:

    16 is a great number!

I haven’t read much YA books either, it was only when I started book blogging that my eyes where really opened to the genre.

  3. Kathy says:

I’ve read 10 of them, but have several in my TBR pile.

  4. iliana says:

Oh great list. I’ve only read 15 out of those but like you I’m sort of new to the YA genre. There are a bunch on here though that are on my TBR list.

Sandy – that’s how I feel, too – I’m sure in the next couple of years I’ll get to many more of these titles.

Ladybug – That’s what happened for me, too – book bloggers started talking YA, and I started listening.

Kathy – I added a bunch to my TBR list just from doing this meme – I stopped to look up some of the titles that sounded familiar, and found a bunch I want to read.

  6. Nymeth says:

21 here. I also only started reading YA more this year. Lots of catching up to do!

  7. stacybuckeye says:

Interesting, especially since there are so many newer titles on the list. I think I’ve only read 8!

  8. CarrieK says:

Iliana – yep, that TBR list just keeps growing and growing…

  9. CarrieK says:

Stacy – I think it’s a new meme – that might account for the dearth of older titles on the list.

  10. CarrieK says:

Nymeth – that’s the highest count I’ve seen yet!

  11. Aussie T says:

I’m surprised that Dangerous Days: The Autobiography of a Photojournalist by J. William Turner isn’t on your YA fiction list

  12. CarrieK says:

Aussie – I didn’t compile this list – it’s just one that is going around. I’m not sure who put it together – but thanks for the recommendation – I’ll check it out!
