Title: Y

I’ve been enjoying The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2008 in small sips before bed. It’s an eclectic mixture of fiction and non-fiction, the silly and the serious. Y is the story of Shannon, a young girl whose life is marked by crossroads moments – those “Y’s” in the road we all arrive at. She was left by her teenage, unwed mother on the doorsteps of the YMCA, and her life continues on in a series of forks, leading from one family to another, and bringing her full circle – almost. This story was beautifully written and I will definitely be on the look-out for more of Ms. Celona’s work.

I LOVE the Best Non Required Series. I havne’t read 2008 yet but I’ve been hooked since the first one several years ago. Love it. Such a great way to sample off the beaten path stuff!

Marie – I received my copy as a wonderful gift from Vasilly, and I’m definitely enjoying it. I need to see if my library has any of the past editions.

I’ve just started reading “Interpreter of Maladies” as one of my newest forays into short story. I’ve read several this summer so far, and I’m liking them! I have been needing to dig into this genre. It appeals to my twitchy personality.

I’m not familiar with this book. I’ll have to look for it. The story sounds like a good one. Life certainly is full of forks in the road, isn’t it?

Sandy – I love reading short fiction when it’s well-written. I read one of one of Lahiri’s short stories through DailyLit recently – it was very good!
LF – This is a book full of very eclectic selections – fiction, non-fiction, lists of Facebook groups, names of show-dogs, news headlines – it’s a very fun read!
