The Sunday Salon – July 19, 2009 (The “bookish-links-for-Saturday-a-day-late” edition)

The Sunday Salon.com

Sorry for the late links post. The past three days have been so busy – I’ve had very little time for the computer. My Google Reader reads 1000+ posts! I may never catch up.

My sister was here visiting from across the state, and we spent all day Thursday and Friday visiting and playing at the park. (She also brought me her copies of the three books in Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series – can’t wait to find time for them!) Then all four kids participated in Tae Kwon Do seminars and a tournament yesterday. And did I mention that the temperature has broken 100 the past couple of days? I’m pooped.

  1. Thank you so much for the double mention!

I loved reading Neil Gaiman’s hints. I got a copy of The Graveyard book on CD yesterday, so am really excited about listening to it

Thanks for the mention of my giveaway.

Gaiman is an amazingly good reader. Most authors shouldn’t try to narrate their books.

Beth – I agree, there are very few authors who should read their own work. Gaiman is definitely one of them, though! I did listen to his Anansi Boys, which wasn’t read by him, but by Lenny Bruce – and it was still wonderful.

Gautami – I don’t know if any of the giveaways are open internationally. I’ll try to be more specific in my future links posts and highlight the ones that are!

  3. Those Google Reader posts can add up fast, can’t they? It can be overwhelming at times. I hate to miss anything though. It’s been extra hot here too lately. It’ll be in the early hundreds today no doubt. Perfect weather for going to see a movie. :-) I hope you had a nice visit with your sister. I’ve been wanting to read Melissa Marr’s books. I hear it’s a great series. I look forward to your thoughts on them.

I love to read out loud sometimes. Not having children, that means the poor animals have to endure it when I get in that mood. Thanks for the link! Interestingly enough though, I’m not a big fan of being read to. I’ll have to think about why that may be.

    Have a great week!

LF – I love to read aloud, too! Since I homeschool, I get a lot of opportunities to read out loud and to read great children’s novels I might not otherwise find time for. I wish I was going to see a movie today! We have AC in our living room and bedroom, though, so we’re surviving.

Over 100 degrees? Yikes. We’re on the other end of the spectrum. It was only 58 yesterday. That’s cold for July, even here in Minnesota! :-)

    Thanks for the link!
