I saw this at J. Kaye’s Book Blog awhile ago, and saved it for a rainy day. Well, it’s not raining today, but I felt like doing it.
1. Do you have a favorite author?
I have MANY favorite authors, and the list changes all the time. I’ll throw out a few names that pop into my head right now: Jane Austen, Leon Uris, Lisa Samson, Anne Tyler, Nick Hornby, Tim O’Brien, C.S. Lewis, J.K. Rowling, Madeleine L’Engle…
2. What are your favorite genres?
Fiction of all types: YA, fantasy, women’s lit, children’s lit, historical fiction, mysteries, classics…
3. Least favorite genre?
Horror. I’m a scaredy-cat.
4. What genre would you like to read more of but don’t?
Science fiction. I really enjoy good science fiction, but I don’t know anything about contemporary sci-fi authors.
5. What was your favorite book when you were 10 years old?
Hard to pin it down to an exact age, but it was probably From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg.
6. What books are on your wish list right now?
My wish list is pages and pages long, but here are a few titles:
The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment by A.J. Jacobs
We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
A Timbered Choir: The Sabbath Poems 1979-1997 by Wendell Berry
Poets of World War II (American Poets Project)
Jane Austen’s Letters
The Private Lives of the Impressionists by Sue Roe
The Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby
Shakespeare Wrote for Money by Nick Hornby
The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel
Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
The Calligrapher’s Daughter by Eugenia Kim
Time of My Life by Allison Winn Scotch
The City and the City by China Mieville
and on and on and on….
If you play along, be sure to let me know in the comments so I can come compare answers.

Fun meme! I’m currently listening to the audiobook of We Need to Talk About Kevin. Very tragic.

Stephanie – I started to read it once when the publisher had it up free on their web site, but I didn’t get very far before it was taken down. I’m going to have to get it from the library soon.

I love the Mixed Up Files! I couldn’t wait until my kids were old enough for me to read it to them. We read it before going to NYC, then made a list of the types of art and the locations talked about and designed our own tour of the Met. Such a great book.

Kim – what a wonderful idea! I would love to be able to do that with my kids.
It’s always so hard to list favorites, isn’t it? You did good though.
Jane Austen would definitely have made my list too. And who can resist J.K. Rowling? Some of your wish list books are on mine as well.
