I am feeling seriously in need of a weekend of alone time and non-stop reading. It’s not likely to happen anytime soon, though. I am hoping to participate in the upcoming 24-hour read-a-thon in October, but it will likely be snatched reading time amid the normalcy of life with a husband and four kids. If we had the money, I’d give my husband a night away in a hotel by himself. That way I could do the same thing for the read-a-thon and not feel guilty.
I’m currently reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman, which is very good – so far it reminds me of a cross between Harry Potter and Brideshead Revisited.
I am also reading The Deep End of the Ocean by Jacquelyn Mitchard. This wasn’t in my plans, but I found out the review book I was sent, No Time to Wave Goodbye, is a sequel to The Deep End of the Ocean, and I hate reading sequels without having read the first book. It’s very good so far.
What are you reading this last weekend of September?

I read Deep End of the Ocean…it shook me to my core. Isn’t that every parents’ nightmare? I am extremely curious about the aftermath of all of that. I’m not sure I would like it! I’ll be very interested in hearing your opinions!

Sandy – I started it today and it’s gripping, hard to put down, and you’re right – it is every parent’s nightmare.
I plan to read The Magician for the 24 hour readathon. And I will check out Deep End of the Ocean.

JoAnn – I do have my parents close and my best friend and I trade babysitting. And my husband is usually really good about giving me time away, but he’s been stressed out lately, so it makes it hard.
I know what you mean, Carrie! I could use a weekend like that too–probably you more so though. I am glad you are enjoying The Magicians. I have my eye on that one and hope to read it once it’s out in paperback. It’s been years since I read The Deep End of the Ocean. I do remember enjoying it and am glad you are so far. I hope you have a great week!

I’m really looking forward to the Read-a-thon! I hope you get some more time to read soon. I don’t have The Magicians yet, but it’s a book club read soon so I will be acquiring it. Can’t wait!
