This week, it’s my mom’s turn to list her favorite novels, the ones she thinks everyone would enjoy. She didn’t add any comments to her list, so I’ll just chime in with my two-cents’ worth, since I’ve read most of them, too.
Papa’s Wife, Papa’s Daughter, Mama’s Way by Thyra Ferre’ Bjorn
I read and re-read this trilogy several times while growing up, and loved it every time. It’s about a Swedish minster and his family who come to America. Simple truths, good storytelling.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
This is one children’s series that I actually haven’t read. Mom said she read the whole series multiple times when she was a girl, and loved them all.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
One of my all-time favorites – I must have read it 10 times while I was growing up. My 12-year-old, Natalie, recently read it, and she loved it, too.

Exodus by Leon Uris
Another of my favorites, as well – this historical fiction epic chronicles the beginnings of the modern nation of Israel.
Mom also recommends any of the Gothic romances penned by Victoria Holt, aka Jean Plaidy and Phillippa Carr.

I like your mom’s picks! I’ve read both Wizard of Oz plus one sequel, and loved Little Women, too. Haven’t read the other two on the list. I’m not big on historical fiction, but Papa’s Wife, Papa’s Daughter, Mama’s Way sounds good.

Sandy – I really want my daughter to do a list, like yours did, but so far she’s being stubborn.
I have Little Women on my TBR pile! I’ve seen the 1939 version of the movie but I’ve never read the book. Great recommendations from your mother =D

Kathy – I’ve been thinking it’s time for a re-read for me, too. My daughter and I talked about it a lot while she read it, and I realized how much I’d forgotten.
Great list! Little Women is on my wishlist!
