As of Wednesday, the third quarter of 2009 was over. (Just typing that sentence makes my head spin – where did this year go?) Since I confessed a couple weeks ago that I was giving up on a couple of challenges, and this is the first Sunday of October, I thought I’d recap my reading for September, as well as examine where I stand on my remaining challenges.
Books read in September (links will take you to my reviews):
~ The Second Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares (audio)
~ The Maze Runner by James Dashner
~ Holly’s Inbox by Holly Denham
~ Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares
~ The Twelve by William Gladstone
~ The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
~ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling (audio)
~ The Purloined Boy by Mortimus Clay
~ Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares (audio)
~ Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (read-aloud)
~ Eleven on Top by Janet Evanovich
~ Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich
~ The Boys’ War: Confederate and Union Soldiers Talk About the Civil War by Jim Murphy (read-aloud)
Reading challenge progress:
100 Shots of Short Challenge
Goal: 100 short stories
Read: 83
Deadline: none
Comments: I’m actually doing pretty well on the reading part, but I haven’t been reviewing the short stories I read lately.
100+ Reading Challenge
Goal: challenge goal is 100; personal goal is 135
Read: 101
Deadline: December 31, 2009
Comments: My personal goal is still possible, but it will be tight.
Art History Challenge
Goal: 6 books
Read: 2
Deadline: December 31, 2009
Comments: Isn’t looking good, is it?
Classics Challenge
Goal: 6 books
Read: 3, 2 more in progress
Deadline: December 31, 2009
Comments: I think I’ll finish this one. I changed two of my titles, since I looked at the challenge rules, and this was allowed. I swapped Women in Love by D.H. Lawrence for The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, because I couldn’t get into the Lawrence book. Not sure if I’ll give it a try at another time. I swapped Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner for Persuasion by Jane Austen, because then it counts for another challenge, too.
Everything Austen Challenge
Goal: 3 books, 3 movies
Finished: 1 book, 1 movie
Deadline: January 1, 2010
Comments: I’m pretty sure I’ll complete this one.
Harry Potter Challenge
Goal: 7 books – I’m doing these on audio
Finished: 1
Deadline: July 31, 2010
Comments: I think this one is probable.
Random Reading Challenge
Goal: 12 books
Finished: 0
Deadline: July 31, 2010
Comments: Still possible, but I have to clean out my ARCs and review copies first.
Sookie Stackhouse Challenge
Goal: 9 books
Finished: 0
Deadline: June 30, 2010
Comments: Hmmm……….maybe.
Stephanie Plum Challenge
Goal: 10 books
Finished: 2, 1 in progress on audio
Deadline: December 31, 2010
Comments: Definitely going to finish this one.

The year does seem to be flying by, doesn’t it? It never feels that way come February though. It looks like you are doing well with your challenges, Carrie! The Sookie books are quick reads; I’m sure you’ll get through them once you get into them.

Wendy – I’ve heard that they’re quick reads – it’s just a matter of getting through the ARCs and review copies I’ve got piled up. Sigh. I really need to learn how to say no.

You are doing great on your challenges! I think the only one I have failed is the Outlander, but I still mean to finish all the books. Just waaaay not in time!

Sandy – me, too – I will definitely finish the series – and the new one – but I definitely missed the deadline on that one.

The year IS flying by! I abandoned all my challenges: it’s too much to keep up with. I found the organization of figuring out what counted for which challenge took away too much time from reading.
I noticed you haven’t started the Sookie Stackhouse challenge yet, but if you can squeeze in the first book, you’ll be hooked and finish with ease! They’re great, quick reads. I’ve only read the first two so far, but neither has taken more than a day (which is not the norm for me unlike some bloggers I’m jealous of!)
Good luck!

Nomadreader – I’m glad that I have longer than just this year to do the Sookie one!
If I did this with my challenges, it’d be pretty much zero all the way down the line. :0 Ohhhh welllll.

Tasha – good thing there isn’t a penalty for not finishing challenges, right?
