Whatcha Watchin’? Wednesday is a weekly feature in which I talk about the TV we’re watching, either on DVD or on cable. Feel free to grab the graphic, join in, and play along – just leave a link to your post in the comments.
There’s a fine line between delusion and reality. NYPD detective Sam Tyler finds himself walking both sides of that line when he is suddenly hurtled back in time to 1973 after being struck by a car in 2008. Journey back to the ’70s and uncover the secrets of Life on Mars.
Kevin and I have been watching Life on Mars the past couple weeks, an episode here and an episode there. I like it, but don’t love it. It’s a very unique concept, and I usually love sci-fi like this, but for some reason it’s just not completely grabbing me. I definitely want to finish it and find out how it ends, though.
The biggest thing this show has going for it is Jason O’Mara, who plays the lead character. I’ve liked him ever since I saw him (a lot of him, since his first scene involved skinny-dipping) as Fergal on Monarch of the Glen. He was also brilliant as an arsonist on a few episodes of The Closer – so convincing that during the first episode of Life on Mars, I kept expecting him to be the bad guy!
Because the series is set in the 1970s, the soundtrack is fantastic and the clothes are outrageous – as are the hairstyles. It’s fun to watch and wonder what in the heck people were thinking!

. My husband and I LOVED this show and mourned its early cancellation. We have the DVD too and are looking forward to making time to watch it!

It’s got such a great premise. I think we might grab this one for our weekend family nights (but the kids are eager to get the latest Bones DVD set first).

Belle – I know, the premise is what grabbed me to begin with – even before I realized the actor was Fergal from Monarch!
How funny, Carrie, I was just thinking about this show and how I kind of missed it. It gets better as the season goes on, although my favorite part of the show was the music. Simon & Garfunkle FTW!!! And I totally love David Bowie’s Starman now.

Amy – adding it to my Netflix queue right now. Thanks for the tip!
I should do this considering how much I’ve been talking about TV lately on my Monday movie posts instead of movies. LOL
I haven’t seen Life of Mars, but I’m really curious about it. Especially after reading your review here. I seem to have a thing for science fiction like TV shows. I hadn’t realized that until this year.

Wendy – I like sci-fi TV shows, too – it’s become my favorite genre.
