I am so excited to be participating in Dewey’s Read-a-thon for the first time. The read-a-thon takes place on October 24th and 25th, with the official starting time being 5 a.m. PST. I am in the Pacific Time Zone, but since my kids are all going to be on sleepovers on Friday night the 23rd, I’m going to start my read-a-thon that evening and go for 24 hours (with a few hours of sleep in there, I’m sure). I’ll be starting a little earlier than everyone else, and crashing when everyone is still in the thick of it, but with four kids, ya gotta do what ya gotta do, right?
Here is my tentative list of books I’ll be dipping in to:
The Watsons by Jane Austen
Dear Fatty by Dawn French
Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 1) by Charlaine Harris
The Dead Of Night (The Tomorrow Series #2) by John Marsden
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeiffer (If a copy comes in to the library for me on time.)
The Books of Magic #1: The Invitation (Books of Magic, 1) by Carla Jablonski
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
That’s it so far – I may add to this list, but I guarantee I won’t read them all. For one thing, if I’m in the middle of a book, I’ll probably have to finish that first before moving on to my read-a-thon list, or else it will drive me crazy.
Anyone else doing the read-a-thon? What books are you planning on reading?

Hush, Hush is a great book for the read-a-thon. I keep changing my list every day so I won’t be posting my final list until next week. That’s so smart to start earlier. I don’t think I will since I’ll be home alone with the kids on Saturday. I think I might have them participate in the read-a-thon too.

Vasilly – you’ll have to let me know how it goes to have the kids do the read-a-thon with you – I might have to try it in the spring.

I think the first Sookie would make a great read-a-thon book. I’m hoping to read the fourth one for the read-a-thon!

I had intended to participate with my daughter, but I’m going on an all-girls cruise with my high school friends! I wouldn’t pass up the cruise for anything in the world, but I’m still disappointed to be missing out on this for the second time in a row. Maybe this spring we’ll do it. My schedule is always chaotic. I don’t know why I would think that something else won’t come up, but we have the best intentions!

I was making a mental list of read-a-thon books and Dead Until Dark was on it. Then I realized there was a conflict with Parent’s Weekend at my daughter’s college…guess it’ll have to wait until spring

I’m joining for the first time too. It will be very exciting. I see you have a paranormal day of reading prepared for yourself. That should be fun.

Lilly – I didn’t realize how many of my titles are paranormal!
I like your reading list. I’ve read lots of good things about Hush, Hush. This reminds me that I need to get my reading list posted as well. I will be participating. I’ve never done a book blogger read-a-thon before. I’m not sure it will be as fun as an all-girls cruise, but I am excited nonetheless.

Having read LIfe as We Knew It before NASA crashed a rocket into the moon, the whole thing gave me the creeps even though I rationally knew it was a safe experiment. We read the book in our Parent Son book group and when my husband, son and I heard about the experiment we all said “uh oh.”

Kim – I’m not really sure what it’s about – I just heard a blogger mention that it was a real page-turner, which sounded perfect for the read-a-thon!
I’ll have to finish whatever book I’m in the middle of too at the start of the read-a-thon. I’m trying not to have unrealistic expectations. If I don’t finish more than 1 or 2 books, I’ll be ok with that.

Godo luck with the read-a-thon, Carrie! Your list of books to read so far looks great. I’ve been wanting to read Wicked Lovely.

Wendy – the Wicked Lovely series is my sister’s favorite, and she brought her copies to me this summer – I’m just finally getting to it!
Wicked Lovely will be a great readathon book. I think that if I finish a book Thursday evening, I’m not going to start another one until the Readathon, because I don’t want to start with half a book read, but I also don’t want to pause a book and read 5 others in the middle!

Though the Dead of Night is not currently on my list (hasn’t come in at the library yet) I do hope it’ll get on there. Tomorrow, When the War Began was my favorite book as a teenager, but I never realized it was just the first book of the series!
I, too, will be starting the Read-a-thon Friday evening as I have responsibilities Saturday evening and Sunday. Yay for the early birds!
