Recommendations from a non-blogger – Jonathan (my 10-year-old)

Posted By CarrieK on October 23, 2009

Last week, Jonathan wanted to get in on the whole “do a post on Mom’s blog so I don’t have to do my grammar assignment” deal, and who was I to argue? Here’s his list of favorites:

goblinsjonGoblins! An UnderEarth Adventure by Royce Buckingham
Jonathan’s thoughts: It’s about these two boys going underground to the land of the Goblins. I liked it because it was full of adventure and because it had Goblins and big huge bugs.

horribleharryjonThe Horrible Harry series by Suzy Kline
Jonathan’s thoughts: These books are about this boy who always does horrible stuff. I like them because they’re really funny.

danielxjonThe Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge
Jonathan’s thoughts: It is about this alien boy who has magical powers and he’s an alien hunter that avenges his family. I like how he has powers, how he hunts aliens, and how funny it is.

diarywimpyjonThe Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney
Jonathan’s thoughts: These books are about a wimpy kid that is sometimes getting into trouble and sometimes bad things happen to him, like getting a sweater for Christmas instead of a game. I like all the funny pictures and all the funny stuff he does.

100jon100 Cupboards by N.D. Wilson
Jonathan’s thoughts: It’s about this boy who finds cupboards that are magical and lead to other worlds. It has funny parts and freaky parts, and once he put a hand through the cupboard that came out another cupboard and scared the bejeebies out of this girl.

Carrie, I can tell that Jonathan and my son Ryan would get along swimmingly. They are just….such…boys!

Sandy – it was interesting to read Jonathan’s comments all in a row – and find what he likes – humor showed up in each book – and adventure, of course. He is definitely all boy! If you and your family ever end up in the Spokane area, or we’re ever fortunate enough to visit Florida, we’ll have to get together – I’m sure Jonathan and Ryan would have a blast! (We would have fun talking ourselves blue in the face, too, I’m sure. )

Great job Jonathan! My daughter loves the Wimpy Kid series but I think you also convinced us to read 100 cupboards. Hopefully you’ll guest post for mom more often.

Great post! I am always on the lookout for books for my boyfriend’s nine year-old daughter. She is crazy about the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series but I don’t think she’s read any of the other books/series Jonathan listed.
