Whatcha Watchin’? Wednesday – Catching Up (House, Castle, V, Bones, Fringe, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice)
Posted By CarrieK on November 10, 2009
Whatcha Watchin’? Wednesday is a weekly feature in which I talk about the TV we’re watching, either on DVD or on cable. Feel free to grab the graphic, join in, and play along – just leave a link to your post in the comments.
I haven’t talked about the current television season yet since we’ve been watching so much TV on DVD. But here’s a run-down of my favorite shows and the season so far.
Mondays:
House – When the season started, I screwed up and missed recording the season premiere. Well, FOX re-ran it last week, so we finally got to watch it. The finale, in which House is in a mental hospital, was absolutely brilliant. Hugh Laurie is one of the most impressive actors on television right now. (If you need proof of his range, watch an episode of Jeeves and Wooster.) I like the fact that they finally dealt with House’s addiction. We have only watched one other episode – in which Foreman (whom I can’t stand) tries to take over House’s job and Taub quits and Foreman fires 13. I loved the scenes between House and Wilson – I vote for more of those.
Castle – Okay, the Halloween episode was hilarious, and I loved the shout-out to all the fans of Captain Tightpants. Love, love, love this show – and my favorite part is Castle’s relationship with his daughter.
Tuesdays:
V – This show got off to a strong start last week. Another fangirl’s dream – both Inara and Wash from Firefly. And Juliet from Lost. I haven’t watched the second episode yet – here’s hoping it was as good.
Thursdays:
Okay, I have to say thanks to my Dad for the fact that I can watch Fringe and Grey’s Anatomy. See, I still record TV the old-fashioned way – on a VCR. (Remember those?) And I can only record one thing at a time, and since my husband doesn’t like either show, my Dad records Fringe for me. Nice of him, huh?
Bones – I really like Bones and Booth, but this season isn’t really clicking for me. I’m tired of Angela – I would really love it if she left the show. I have nothing against animal-lovers, but the fact that she wigs out way more over any animal abuse than she ever does over the human murder victims that they see bugs me. Hodgins needs to find another girlfriend. And I like Sweets – more of him, please.
Fringe – They teased us with the reveal in last season’s episode – that Peter is really the other universe’s Peter who Walter stole when this universe’s Peter died – and then they haven’t done squat with it. Less disgusting stuff – more of the alt-universe and William Bell storyline, please.
Grey’s Anatomy – Really, is Izzy gone yet? Cause I really don’t like her at all anymore. I see in the preview for this week’s episode that she’s back and supposedly pregnant. Michelle (my BF) and I have a theory: she’ll refuse cancer treatment in order to have the baby, give the baby to Alex, and die. Please, let us be right. I don’t like the changes in the Chief’s character. I really like Arizona and that she stood up to him. I love Owen and Christina and Lexie and Sloane as couples – more of them, please.
Private Practice – I am so, so glad that Violet’s baby is Pete’s. Don’t know if I want them to get back together, though – I always thought they made a strange couple. I think Pete and Addison make the most sense together – but I think the writers are going to go in a Sam/Addison direction, which would make way for lots of Naomi-Addison drama. It’s been good so far – not great, but good.
So, do you watch any of these shows? Do you agree or disagree with my thoughts? Let’s chat in the comments.

The only TV I watch is Dancing With the Stars and college sports. My husband loves Castle, though.

Kathy – I suppose I could get a lot more reading done if I gave up some of my shows!
I could not agree more with Fringe getting back on track with the alternate-universe and Peter story. I adore the show, but I worry that it is going to try to hide more than it reveals and move very slowly toward revelations. While that plan seems to have worked well for Lost, it is rare that a show can pull off that sort of long-drawn-out suspense; most of the time that tactic is frustrating rather than suspenseful. I hope Fringe doesn’t try.

Trish – I agree – even with how wonderful a show Lost is, there are times when I felt like I wanted it to just hurry up and give us some information! I doubt Fringe has the fan base or that the fans have the patience to put up with such a prolonged reveal.
Love House. So glad that the original team is back. Love Castle and his realtionship with his daughter is my favorite part too. Loves Bones (and Sweets) and the first episode of V was fantastic. Can’t wait to see more.

Stacy – me, too – I never liked the replacement team on House.
Carrie – Exactly. On Lost, a person can come stumbling out of the woods covered in blood, sit next to a person on the beach, and said person doesn’t even bother to ask what happened… It drives me nuts. And yet I still love the show.

I try to limit my television simply because I become too dependent.
Right now, I’m limiting myself to Heroes, V, Bones, and Fringe.
On DVD, I’m working through season Four of Babylon 5.

Michael – as you see, I watch way too many shows!
I saw the season premier of House, but I just realized last night that I haven’t watched it since then! I’ve been terrible about keeping up with it. And for some reason there are only three episodes in the DVR….
Castle is going great so far. It’s replaced The Mentalist as my favorite mystery series. The Halloween episode was freaking brilliant.
V is definitely getting off to a strong start–and it’s a scifi fan’s dream! Did you catch the shout-out to The 4400 in this week’s ep?

Tasha – no, I missed the 4400 reference, – what was it?
It was when the priest (that actor used to star in The 4400) and the reporter were on the pier at the very beginning, and the reporter called 911. The address she gave was 4400.

Tasha – Oh, I totally missed that! I love in-jokes.
The Halloween episode of Castle was great. The Firefly references made it all that much better. Did you catch this week’s episode? I thought it was the best one so far this season, it really had me hooked.

Alita – yes, we watched this week, too – Castle is becoming one of our can’t-miss shows!
