Essay Reading Challenge 2009 – The Wrap-Up & Giveaway
Posted By CarrieK on December 1, 2009
2009 was the first year of what I hope will be an annual event – the Essay Reading Challenge. We had 26 bloggers who signed up to read either 10, 20, or 30 essays over the course of the year. At the main challenge page, you can see a list of all the participants, as well as a list of reviews the bloggers wrote on the essays they read.
I know the year isn’t quite over, but everyone seems to be gearing up for next year’s challenges, so I thought it would be a good time to do a wrap-up post – and also announce the details of the giveaway I promised the participants.
The prize is one copy of Best American Essays 2009 edited by Mary Oliver.
All participants of the Essay Challenge who completed their goal and wrote at least one review of an essay is eligible for the giveaway. I have the list of participants on the main challenge page, and I have many reviews linked, but I know I could have missed some reviews. So this is going to be on the honor system: 1) if you are one of the participants in this challenge, 2) if you know that you wrote at least one essay review, and 3) you would like to be entered in the drawing, please leave a comment on this post by 11:59 pm PST, Friday, December 11th. On Saturday, December 12th, I will draw a winner.
Thanks again to all the participants! I hope you enjoyed your foray into the world of essays, and I hope you’ll be joining me again for the challenge in 2010 – watch for details to go up soon.

Cool…so anyone can join?

This was one of my favorite challenges of the year. If I join in 2010, I will space out my reading over the year but I will always remember January 2009 as ‘the month of the essay’. Thank you again for hosting and I would love to throw my name in the hat.
Book Psmith – I did all of my essay reading at the beginning of the year, too – I hope to space it out more, too. I’ll definitely throw your name in for the drawing!
Ugh. So I know I held up the reading part of this challenge, but I somehow forgot that I was actually supposed to *blog* about the essays I read. I’ll definitely do this challenge next year, and I’ll do a much better job about blogging on what I read too.
No need to enter me into the drawing as I already have a copy of this book! Lol. I heard wonderful things about and I simply had to have it as soon as possible. I haven’t started reading it yet, but I can’t wait until I get the chance to.

I loved this challenge and will definitely be doing it again next year! I didn’t review as many of the essays I read as I wanted to, but I did write at least one review, so please enter me in the giveaway. Thanks for hosting this challenge, Carrie; I’m glad to hear it’s going to be an annual event!
