Blond bombshell Katherine Heigl has been cast to play the Italian-Hungarian-American Stephanie Plum in the movie adaptation of One for the Money. If they’re going to screw up the casting of the main character, how true are they going to stay to the rest of the film? What’s next? An Asian Ranger or a white Lula? Argh!

What is up with the world lately? I’m so sick of all this whitewashing.

That is so wrong!

I am so glad I’m not the only one freaking out about this! I was so shocked and disappointed when I heard this. She is no way Stephanie Plum.

That is definitely an odd choice!

That is about as bad as casting Reese Witherspoon in that role, which was the last rumor I heard. I was totally up in arms. Obviously casting has not read the novels and does not grasp the essence of Stephanie. I’m irritated!

Pingback: BOOKS AND MOVIES » Morelli and Ranger casting for Stephanie Plum movie
I actually think Katherine Heigl will do fine for the role. Call me crazy, but I have had Sophia Bush in my head as Stephanie for the longest time. She does loud and feisty well, looks right, and always seems really committed to playing her roles.
I have no clue what the casting directors were thinking when they chose that Irish guy to play Morelli. Someone who actually looks Italian, please!

So, I don’t think that they made the right choice for Stephanie Plum, but my theory when It comes to Katherine is she eith fails misrebly or knocks it out of the park. This is an extremely different role for her and I think she will play the accident prone part well if she can nail the actual character. Let’s give her a chance. As for Morrelli, that boy better get a tan and and attitude.
Can’t wait for the movie to be released. BUT my friends and I who are devoted fans think Stephanie should have been played by Sandra Bullock. That is my only comment!
Really Really, katherine as stepahine plum? shes a great actress but stephanie is a fiesty brunette on the shorter side, katherine is a tall blonde?? what were they thinking and ranger is soposed to be a huge buff hotty this guy is way to small and average and the worst yet is morelli where is my 100% italian bombshell????this guy is soo off i dont even know if i can watch the movie with such a wrong cast.. at least lulu looks right
If anyone has seen Heigl act, she generally plays a character that isn’t good under pressure and she does a great job. She’s a fantastic actress so I think she’ll do a good job, but I pictured someone with features a little harder than Heigl. Stephanie is about 5’7″ and Heigl is only two inches taller. Has anyone seen her in Killers? I think we’ll be ok. Sandra Bullock would probably have been perfect!!! I’m a little disappointed at the choice for Morelli, the guy seems to soft to be him. The should have consulted the fans!!! I think the other guy will do a good job as Ranger, but we’ll soon see!!
WHAT THE HECK was the casting director, THINKING! NO WAY is Katherine Heigl, a Stephine Plum. I know she is a top pick for casting directors BUT NOT FOR THIS ROLE!!! I agree with Lula choice, but if u don’t have the correct Stephine, the whole movie will be a flop. SOOOOO depressed…..
Gotta admit – my “Stephanie” pictured in my head while reading has always been Jennifer Esposito – even before she got more noteriety with the recurring “Bluebloods” role.. Perfect voice and hair. But movies of popular books can’t match anyone’s mental image of the book. Gotta judge it overall as a movie independent from the books.
I’m a new fan of Janet Evanovich and have read several of the Stephanie Plum novels. I can only see Sandra Bullock as Stephanie. She would have been perfect in the role. Sherri Shephard – right on as Lula. Cloris Leachman or Betty White would have been a hoot as Grandma Mazur. Joe Morelli needs to be a hunky Italian. What were the casting directors thinking? I hope they haven’t ruined the movie with mis-casting. It’ll be such a disappointment.
