Two fantastic, five-star reads this week that I haven’t reviewed yet, one on audio, one in print. First was The Heart is Not a Size by Beth Kephart in print. I adore her writing. My review will go up on the 24th for a blog tour. Second one was When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead on audio. This is an amazing middle grade novel that won the 2010 Newbery. You must read this book – especially if you ever read and loved A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.
I’m currently listening to two books on audio – I’m halfway through Brisingr by Christopher Paolini – this is book three in the Inheritance Cycle, read by Gerard Doyle. I also listened to book two, Eldest, read by Doyle – I enjoy doing the series this way, because when I read Eragon and came across people and place names, or words in the ancient language, that I wasn’t sure how to pronounce, it would distract me from the story. Listening to them on audio removes that distraction.
Brisingr is 23 discs long, and when I’m listening to a long book, I usually alternate discs with another one. I just started The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan for my other audio choice.
In print, I’m about halfway through Far From the Land: An Irish Memoir by Thomas J. Rice. This is a poignant and humorous memoir of growing up in Ireland in the 1950s, and I’m enjoying it very much. My other print read is On Folly Beach by Karen White. This is the first book I’ve read by White, and now I see why people rave about her work so much.
If you find time to read today, what will you read?

Marg – I have yet to read The Help – but am hoping to listen to it on audio soon – and haven’t read anything by Lisa See, either! I have some catching up to do.
I also enjoyed Far from the Land! Enjoy!

Harvee – glad to hear you enjoyed it, too.
Listening to a 23 disc audio book takes more dedication than I have. I don’t think I could alternate it with another book. I hope you enjoy it.

Kathy – it’s not all that different from reading more than one book at a time – which I know not everyone does, especially as much as I do!

I really liked On Folly Beach! It was my first White book too. I’m currently reading The Daughters of Witching Hill. Hopefully I will get a chance to sit down with it today by the pool.

Sandy – your review of On Folly Beach made me pick it up sooner than later.

I think if I listened to Paolini’s series I would be horrified by my completely incorrect pronunciation.
That is a whole bunch of CDs to listen to. I can read Brisingr in like one-fifth the time it would take me to listen!

Trisha – oh, yeah, I can definitely read in print way faster, too, but I enjoy audiobooks when I can’t sit down and read – like while doing dishes or laundry.
Sounds like you’ve been having some good luck with books lately! I’m reading Dead End Gene Pool right now, although I’m only a few pages in. Hopefully I get more read before bed tonight. It’s good so far!

I’m glad that I’m not the only one in the middle of a ton of books! I started reading A Wish After Midnight by Zetta Elliot which is going great. I’m still listening to When You Reach Me and Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. I’m also rereading Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. Hope you’re having a great day!

Vasilly – ooo, lots of good stuff – I LOVE Bird by Bird. Should re-read that one sometime soon.
My very good friend read When You Reach Me, and requested that I read it as well. It is on my list of reads for this month. I have not read A Wrinkle in Time, thanks for the reminder that I was planning on reading that book before When You Reach Me.

Ibeeg – it’s not completely necessary to read Wrinkle first, but it will certainly add to your reading experience.
