Title: Mockingjay

Genre: YA dystopian fiction
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Source: Print copy from my personal library
First line: I stare down at my shoes, watching as a fine layer of ash settles on the worn leather.
I’m not going to write a review, because there’s simply no way to do it without talking about plot points and I want all of you to read it without anything spoiled. I will say, though, that Collins has outdone herself and that Mockingjay is, hands down, the best book of the series. It was such an emotional experience to read it. I’m still processing and my eyes are still tearing up when I think about certain scenes. Sigh. If you haven’t read this series yet, what are you waiting for?

Having thesame problem!

I haven’t read the series and don’t know what I am waiting for. I’ve heard so many good things about it, I’m not sure why I haven’t picked one of these up before now.

Kathleen – you really should give it a try!
My husband started Mockingjay last night – I haven’t even started The Hunger Games yet! I’m, so behind!

Kathy – yes, you are.
My dad is picking up my copy tomorrow – he’s been waiting almost as anxiously as I have.
I’m afraid I’m going to be in the minority with this one…I found it disappointing, mostly because I didn’t care the characters’ actions.

Jill – oh, that’s too bad! It is hard to be disappointed in a book you were really anticipating.
Totally agree with about the review part. There is just no way to write one without giving it away. I found myself crying at the end. I loved this book!

I’m impressed by the complexity of the book, I think she upped the quality of the series and the YA genre.

I love Collins and I think we’re all well aware of the fact that I love this series but I have to admit I was a little let down by Mockingjay. It was good but there were some serious flaws for me. Still one of the best series in YA and one that I love and will continue to pimp!

Michelle- I’m so curious to read some of the reviews from people who were disappointed. I wonder if I’m so fan-girly that I’m blinded to any weaknesses in the book?
I thought the beginning was a little slow but at the end of the book I can honestly say I wouldn’t have changed anything. There were things I wish would have happened… ( *cough Cinna cough*) but I understand her reasons for ending the series the way she did. Very realistic.
