The Sunday Salon – August 29, 2010 (the “what I’m reading while I should be lesson planning” edition)

The Sunday Salon.com

First of all, can I say that it really shouldn’t be the last Sunday of August yet? I can hardly believe that the month is almost over, though Natalie is very glad that the last couple of weeks have gone by quickly. (Brief update for those of you following her progress: she has a C/T scan scheduled on Wednesday, the 1st. If scan shows that inflammation is gone or greatly improved, we will start to advance her diet slowly and continue with Remicade treatments; if scan shows no or not enough improvement, we schedule her for surgery to have about 8 to 10 centimeters removed from her small intestine. She’s hanging in there, but is really tired of the whole IV at home thing.)

I did get a bunch of school-related stuff done yesterday, so I’m not going to feel too guilty if I take some time to sit and read today. I am currently one disc away from finishing The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on audio (I’m typing this Saturday night, so I may actually have finished it before crashing), and am in the middle of reading Matched by Ally Condie – which is fantastic so far – and Heresy by S.J. Parris, which is beautifully written but a slower read.

If you get a chance to read on this last Sunday of the month, which books will be your companions?

I hope you are loving that audio! I think I could listen to Simon Vance forever, so it was a pleasure to make my way through that trilogy. We just got back from Chicago and are playing that catch up game, so I doubt I will be reading ANYTHING!

Trisha – I wish I had more time to sit and read, because I know I could probably finish it in a day!

I hope things go well with the CT scan. I’m sure she’s ready to have a bit of peace and relaxation. Good luck for a successful school year, I have no doubt you’ll all do well and be extremely productive.

The Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo and Matched are both on my mile long list of to-reads. I can’t wait to read your reviews! Thx for linking my review to the main page w/ the Ireland challenge, I hadn’t realized I hadn’t done that yet. I just finished a Lord Peter Wimsey mystery yesterday. Right now I’m sipping my tea and trying to decide between Robert Silverberg and Dorothy Allison.

I will think good thoughts for your Natalie. Have a peaceful, wonderful day! ^-^

Hoping things turn out well for your daughter. Keep us updated…which I’m sure you will.

I can’t imagine listening to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I enjoyed it, but it was difficult to wade through the first one for some reason: maybe the subject matter. I breezed through the second one, though.

As for today’s reading, nothing so far, but I’ll probably delve a little into an online friend’s book, The Force Is Middling In This One.

UP – It was definitely difficult subject matter, but so well written. I’m looking forward to book two. (And, now that you’ve outed yourself, can I use your real name ;) )

Hope everything goes well for Natalie this Wednesday!

I recently plowed through all three of Larsson’s books at the beginning of summer – I read them all in ebook format, and couldn’t stop, just downloaded one right after the other!

Matched sounds like a great read.
