Since it is the first Sunday of the month, I am posting the books I read in August – which seemed to fly by. I am still scrambling to be ready to start homeschooling on Wednesday, but when I do grab a few minutes for reading today, it will be from either Heresy by S.J. Parris or The Gendarme by Mark Mustian.
Now that we’re entering a new season, I’m curious. Are your reading habits seasonal? Do you have a certain genre or author that you want to read during the autumn?
Books finished in August:
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl – 5 stars – my review
The Girl Who Stopped Swimming by Joshilyn Jackson (audiobook) – 4 stars – my review

I’m really not a seasonal reader – I read the same things all year round! I suppose it can be fun, but if it weren’t for certain reading challenges I’d probably never even have thought to change my reading over the course of a year.

Meghan – I like the idea of seasonal challenges, but haven’t done one in a while. I’m still considering RIP, though.

I don’t think I am seasonal, except it does seem that I read less audios in the summer when I am vacationing and around the kids more. You have had an incredible reading month…so many good books!

Sandy – I’ve done a lot more audios this year – more insomnia because of stress, plus more driving time.
You had a great month in books! I don’t think my reading habits are seasonal. If we vacation at the beach, I usually get a lot of reading done, but we didn’t do that this year.

Kathy – I usually read more mysteries in the summer – they’re perfect beach books – but this hasn’t been a normal summer for us.

I don’t think I’m a seasonal reader, but I’ve honestly never thought about it before. I may have to look at the past years to see what’s up.

Trisha – I love analyzing my reading habits – I’m kind of obsessive that way.

I’m definitely a seasonal reader! I plan on rereading The Graveyard Book once the weather becomes a little bit colder. Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman is also a great fall book too. For winter, I plan on rereading A Christmas Carol.
Carrie, do you have any books that you’re thinking of reading this fall and winter?

says:
Vasilly – I have a tendency to want to read more classics in the autumn – Dickens, Austen, etc. And I almost always re-read Persuasion – my favorite Austen – around Christmas time.

Nope, not a seasonal reader. I read whatever whenever and usually that’s good enough for me.
Let’s see…which book stands out among the others you mentioned as one you didn’t like? Hmmmm.
Oh, yes, that one. By the way, I loved it.

It’s all right. We all can’t like the same kinds of books, can we? What fun would that be?

Bryan – exactly! Diversity is good.
I agree that August just flew by, and with moving into my townhouse and everything I didn’t get nearly enough reading done. Now with school starting I’m actually getting quite a bit in… at least for now.

The year has just flown by for me–and I have a feeling the rest of the year will too. It looks like you read quite a few good books this past month, Carrie. Several are in my TBR collection waiting their turn.
I can’t say my reading habits are seasonal at all. I think if I worked around the school year it might be more so, in terms of the amount of books I read. And although I may occasionally read a seasonal book here or there, it’s not something I do regularly enough to call it a habit.

I’m so glad you enjoyed Beautiful Creatures so much. It’s truly a fantastic book isn’t it? I’m going to be brushing up on that one in audio as I get ready to read Beautiful Darkness which releases in October.

Gautami – seasonal readers seem to be in the minority.
I used to read so much year round but would tend to read lighter fare during the summer out by the pool or at the beach and my heavier books when the weather turned cold. Now, I am doing good just to read at all!
