Happy Sunday! I’m almost caught up on housework and bills – today will be spent doing some last minute organization and paperwork so we can start homeschooling full force tomorrow. If I get a chance to read, I will spend it with We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver and Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok.
During this last hospital stay for Natalie’s surgery, I had a lot of time to read. She spent the first 36 hours after surgery mostly sleeping, so a lot of reading time, interspersed with getting up to stretch my legs and eat in the cafeteria. I also had a lot of time for audiobooks, because I had a very hard time sleeping in the reclining chair in her hospital room. I had the perfect books to keep me engrossed, too.
In print, I read:

Soulless by Gail Carriger
and

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
On audio, I listened to:

The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson
Each of these books kept me hooked and partially distracted from the stress of what was going on around me – just what I needed for hospital reading. (Reviews are coming soon.)
Before I left for the hospital, I gave up on Heresy by S.J. Parris. I hate not finishing a book I was sent to review, but I gave it 92 pages and simply didn’t want to pick it up again. I know a lot of bloggers have enjoyed it, though, so don’t let my opinion stop you from giving it a try – especially if you like historical fiction set in the world of academia and holy orders.
So, will you spend any part of this Sunday reading? If so, which books?

I really want to read Soulless. I keep seeing reviews of it and then not getting around to reading it myself! The Replacements also looks good. I am hoping my library will have it when it officially comes out.

Kelly – I can’t wait to read the two sequels to Soulless – it was such a fun read.
I read Souless last fall when I was having a bad time and had no brain for anything more complex or emotionally involving. It was an excellent read. There are 2 more in the series out. I’m keeping them in reserve for the next time I need a book like that–they are hard to find.
I’m glad Natalie is doing well!

Kerry – it is hard to find the right book for times of stress, isn’t it?
It’s got to feel wonderful to be back home again! I’m sure you’ve got tons of catching up to do. The cover of The Replacement just calls my name.

Sometimes when I am stressed or distracted, I’m not a good reader. I’m glad you could turn to something to get your mind off your situation. You’ve read some great books – and The Girl Who Played With Fire! Yes!

Hannah – I know a lot of people enjoyed Heresy – I just don’t have the patience for it right now – it’s probably me, not the book.

Books are great for distracting us during stressful situations – my Dad was hospitalized a number of years ago and I read so much during that period – I really needed to dive into those books!
Glad to hear your daughter in on the mend and back home!

Colleen – that’s the best thing about good stories – they can take us out of our real-life stresses.

I think I saw Heresy at our library and was semi-intrigued by it, but maybe not so much now. Thanks for ruining it, lady.
I also appreciate all the updates you’ve given us about your daughter too and glad she’s improving. We’ll continue to keep her in our prayers.

Bryan – don’t take my word for it – remember, you liked Godric, and I pretty much hated it!
I am a huge fan of Gail Carriger’s Alexia Tarabotti. I loved Soulless and devoured the second one. I have the third one waiting for me and really need to finish the series soon. Alexia is such a great character, isn’t she?
I’ve been hearing great things about The Replacement. I have it on my wish list and will get to it one of these days!

Am reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. Liking it very much. Can you imagine being able to taste peoples emotions every time you eat.
