In the category of “please, God, no, anyone but her,” there are rumors that Katherine Heigl will play the character of Claire in a film adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander. Really, people? Have you even read the book? I had just started to adjust to the idea of Heigl playing Stephanie Plum, but this? No way.

I am beginning to see her as the slightly older equivalent to Kristin Stewart. As soon as there is a young woman’s role Kristin is named as one of the possibilities, and as soon as they role requires someone older then it is KH!

Marg – I have noticed the same thing – and I honestly don’t think Stewart is all that special. She was good in Into the Wild, but I don’t think she’s been very good in anything else – and she overacts in the Twilight movies. I don’t mind Heigl in American romantic comedies, but she is not right for the part of Claire at all.

Beth – I honestly thought it was a joke, but she said in a NY Times interview that “if all goes well” she will be doing it – I’m praying for contract negotiations to fall apart.
I’ve not read read any of this series but based on the things I’ve read about it Heigl doesn’t seem the right choice. I’m not sure why she is the latest “it” girl. I liked her on Grey’s Anatomy but don’t think she is a great actress, just a good one.

Kathleen – the character is very British – and the physical description isn’t anything like Heigl’s type. I didn’t mind her on Grey’s the first couple of seasons, but I hated her character by the time she left the show.
Wow theres going to be a Stephanie Plum movie?? I didn’t know that ! And now there’s talk of a Diana Gabaldon movie? I am so behind on the news.

My understanding of Claire in the Outlander series is a woman the age late thirties early 40′s and the fact that Claire is English makes me wonder of the authenticity of Katherine Hegle playing Claire. I think Kathryn is good for funny roles but a a mate for Jamie, please say it isn’t so …
Twitter: booksandmovies
says:
CelticLady – when Claire first meets Jamie in Outlander, she is 28, he is 23 – but, of course, she ages as the series goes on. It’s the fact that Claire is so British and the way she is described physically that makes me hate the idea of Heigl playing her. I don’t understand why movie producers will make a movie of a beloved book but not take into account the opinions of those who have loved the book in their casting choices! I’m holding out hope that this will fall through…
NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Why!!!?????? This better not happen!
