The Sunday Salon – February 6, 2011 (the “Super Bowl” and “January reading wrap-up” edition)

Today is, of course, the Super Bowl, and I will be heartily cheering on the Green Bay Packers. I do, after all, live in Washington State, where the Pittsburgh team is known as the “Stealers.” I’ll be watching the game at my folks’ house. Natalie is coming with me to play board games with my mom, while Kevin and the boys will stay home. We have a bit of role reversal in our house – I’m the football fan; Kevin could take it or leave it. I think the last Super Bowl he watched was the one where the above-mentioned team stole a win from my beloved Seahawks with the help of some very stupid officials.

Before and after the game, however, I will have a bit of reading time. I’ll be spending it with Outside In by Maria V. Snyder, The Art of the Commonplace by Wendell Berry, and Tapestry of Love by Rosy Thornton.

Will you watch the game today? Who are you rooting for? What books will you be reading today?

Well I don’t watch football, but I’ll have it on in the background, I’ll want to see the half time show. I’m going to be continuing clearing my bookshelves, what a task. I’m hoping to finish reading The Bells, Richard Harvel. It’s quite good, a good change of pace for me. I’ve read so many abused women stories that I’m due for a change. Have a good day.

Irene – what did you think of the halftime show? I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan. Although they have a couple of good hits, they didn’t sound that great live, although that could have been sound system quality.

  5. I am from Wisconsin so I have to love the Packers!!!!! Have fun watching the game today :)

    Great Reading Month, Carrie!

I have never watched a football game. Yep, that’s true. Never. Sure, I’ve seen bits and pieces, but it’s not my thing. So today I’ll read or clean closets or write. LOL

I’m not a football fan but I have to watch the game today since Oli wants to watch it. I think he really just wants to eat “game” food. Today I’m writing reviews and reading Among Others by Jo Walton. Have a great time at your parents’.

  8. Before the game, I’ll be reading The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, which was the basis for the movie The Social Network. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be reading during the game too as I’ll be listening on the radio. No commercials to worry about.

  9. We are going to friends for the game… munching out on snacks and chatting up girl talk is my plan while the guys (and a few of the girls) watch the game.

I am hoping yet this afternoon to read a bit more of Certain Women – with the craziness of life I got behind and I am not finished with the book but should be in the next couple of days.

I wouldn’t have even known the Super Bowl today if my regular Sunday meeting time wasn’t changed. I suppose I’m rooting for Green Bay as well though, considering Wisconsin is my neighbor.

  15. well, The Big Game is on as I type this, but I’m not cheering for either team. I’m taking it in with one eye, watching the commercials, and enjoying the twitter commentary.

As for your wonderful reading month of January – lots of great books on your list. I’ve yet to read a Scott Westerfeld …
