DVD Review: Beauty and the Briefcase

Hilary Duff shines in this sparkling romantic comedy based on the book Diary of a Working Girl by Daniella Brodsky. Lane, a fashion journalist, gets the assignment of a lifetime when Cosmopolitan magazine hires her to write a story about finding love in the workplace. Posing as a corporate assistant, Lane finds herself torn between the office’s eligible men in suits and a dashing stranger (Chris Carmack, The O.C.) who sweeps her off her feet. Will she find the “magic man” who fulfills her fantasy checklist, or will her story have an ending as unexpected as love itself? The appealing cast includes Michael McMillian (True Blood) and Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), with Emmy-winner Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl) and the hilarious Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde).

I have a guest reviewer at Books and Movies today – Natalie, my 14-year-old daughter. Here’s what she had to say about Beauty and the Briefcase:

I didn’t really like this movie for a few reasons. 1) The title didn’t even go with the movie. 2) She had no chemistry with the guy she ended up with. 3) The whole entire movie revolved around this girl trying to be able to write an article for Cosmopolitan magazine, which is a magazine I hate. So I don’t really recommend this movie to viewers.

Well, no one can say Natalie doesn’t speak her mind! I will explain the comment about Cosmo – Natalie has picked up on my disdain for a magazine that objectifies women by touting that all a woman needs in life is to find a man on whom she can employ the latest sexual technique. Natalie and I have had discussions about why I dislike that magazine, and I guess I’ve rubbed off on her a little. :)

The Beauty and the Briefcase is available now on DVD.

I use to read Cosmo all the time, and then one day I decided it was just not for me. So I probably wouldn’t like that movie above and beyond the fact I don’t care for Hilary Duff. I’m getting really picky about my leisure time.

I love this movie so much,it is not all about finding the one but also it teaches A LESSON that lies
will never help ,and the that sometimes oblivious is suddenly obvious ,
and she did have a chemistry with that guy she just was into that list that she FORGOT
WHAT she actually wanted ,i mean here is the point -u are LOOKING FOR SOMEONE because u have this feeling that your life is not full, and that u need someone to live your life fully
the thing was that she loved him because he was opposite to her.
AND there is nothing wrong with cosmopolitan i myself reed it because of make up advices ,
fashion, so yeah i mean your daughter is like 14 ….well people at that age are very easy to influent ,to be honest she will grow up she will go to work n stuff and her mind will change ,just be happy with what you have
