Faithful Place read-along schedule (and announcement for Brooklyn read-along)

February is already more than half over; March will be here before we know it. I hope that many of you are planning to join me for the March read-along of Tana French’s Faithful Place. (Updated to add: a commenter mentioned that this book reads like a stand-alone. The first book by French, In the Woods, isn’t referenced at all, and the second book, The Likeness, is barely mentioned, so you don’t need be hesitant to read this if you haven’t read the other two.)

Reading Schedule:

Week One (3/1-3/7): Chapters 1-6
Week Two (3/8-3/14): Chapters 7-12
Week Three (3/15-3/21): Chapters 13-18
Week Four (3/22-3/28): Chapters 19-23

Weekly Post Schedule:

Week One’s reading: March 10th
Week Two’s reading: March 17th
Week Three’s reading: March 24th
Week Four’s reading and wrap-up post or review: March 31st

Each week on the post date, I will post my thoughts on the past week’s reading and also a Mr. Linky for you to add the link to your weekly post. Obviously, the weekly posting is optional – I want this to be fun. If you want to write up a post and link it, do so. If not, don’t – but do read some of the other participant’s posts and leave comments. The conversation is the fun part!

Since the book that received the most votes is part of a series, I know that may prevent some of you from joining us. The votes between Faithful Place and Brooklyn by Colm Toibin were neck and neck until the last couple of days, when French’s book pulled ahead. Obviously, a lot of us also want to read the Toibin, so I decided to host a second Ireland Challenge read-along. I haven’t decided what month, though I am leaning toward July, August, or September. If you’re interested in joining me in reading Brooklyn, and have a strong opinion about which month will work best for you, could you please leave a comment and let me know?

    Random lurker here ;)
About Faithful Place – I read all three books recently and knowledge of the first two is really not required for this one. It barely references The Likeness and In the Woods isn’t mentioned at all, so it’s basically a standalone – you might want to note that for anyone who’s reluctant about reading it first.

Hey, what do you know, I’ve read them both! I really REALLY love Tana French. And while maybe Faithful Place wasn’t my favorite of hers, it still made me swoon. Audio is FABULOUS.

Sandy – I love doing Irish lit via audio, but our library doesn’t have this one. :(

Thank You to Marina; I’ve been stressing about not having read the other two, I’m sure I’ll want after the readalong but..

  4. I didn’t realize you were doing a readalong of Faithful Place! I’ve read both of her earlier books, so I’d love to join you on this one. The only catch is that I don’t own the book and I’m currently on a book-buying ban. I just reserved it from the library, but who knows when I’ll get it. Hopefully, it’ll be sometime before March 10!

    Already?! Argh!
I actually had a look for it on Tuesday when I visited my bookshop but didn’t see it…
We’ll see, it might still happen!

I am really excited! I have never participated in a read-along before. I am all ready to start reading Faithful Place. Tana French is wonderful!

Oh thanks for the reminder. I need to pick this up at the store or library. I will likely post twice instead of four times . . . but you never know! Glad I can read this as a standalone.

  8. Ash says:

    I’ll definitely join this!

  9. Nan says:

Just picked it up at the library. Although I’m reading Winterland right now, I’ll try to squeeze in those chapters of Faithful Place soon.

I have just ordered Faithful Place on my Kindle. Brooklyn is on my list for another challenge, so this will be great for me. This is my first read-a-long and I am really looking forward to this.

Just a quick note to let you know I won’t be doing this read-a-long. I’ve got another book going.

Nan – no worries – the read-along is just an optional part of the challenge – purely for fun. :)
