The past few years, I have eagerly anticipated the arrival of the “Summer Movie Preview” issue of Entertainment Weekly in my mailbox. I am a movie nut. I love the high-quality Oscar-worthies that come out in the autumn and Christmas season, but I also love the action-filled popcorn flicks that fill the summer days. I’m not nearly as discriminating with my movie viewing as I am in my reading – and even like the testosterone-fueled action flicks. I went to see both The Expendables and Battle: Los Angeles with my dad, and was one of the only women in the theater.
There are too many movies that I am looking forward to this summer to put the trailers all in one post, so this is part one of a three-part series highlighting the flicks that will have me shelling out my dollars this summer. (While the first two posts won’t have any order of preference, I am saving the three films I’m most anxious to see for last.)
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – My kids and I all can’t wait for this one! (May 20th)
Something Borrowed – I haven’t read the book, but love the trailer. (May 6th)
Super 8 – Sci-fi by J.J. Abrams? Yes, please! (June 10th)
Green Lantern – Ryan Reynolds. Enough said, right? (June 17th)

We see alot of movies in the summer, especially the kid-friendly ones. Too damn hot down here for anything else. I do love Johnny, so that one will be on the list I’m sure!

Sandy – I love Johnny, too. Sigh.
I was looking up some of the movies coming out the rest of the year and there are a lot of ones that look rather good. I will probably see Pirates of the Caribbean at some point. I have read Something Borrowed and didn’t really enjoy it, but the movie might be more my thing. The other two you mention look good, too!

Kelly – I just downloaded Something Borrowed on audio. Hmmmm….. Maybe I’ll put it down on the list – I have Master and Commander to listen to, too.
I’m really looking forward to the new Pirates movie. Pirates! You’ve got to watch that in theaters, too, so you get the full effect.
When does the last Harry Potter come out?

Tasha – Harry Potter comes out on July 15th – and will definitely show up in the last part of my summer movie preview – the one that will have the movies I’m looking forward to most! And you gave me a good idea – I should add release dates to these posts.

I read Something Borrowed and didn’t really like it all that much (preferred the sequel). Having said that , I do want to see the movie. Maybe it will be one of those rare occassions when the movie is better than the book.

Marg – you’re the second person whose opinion I respect who has said that Something Borrowed wasn’t that good. Maybe I’ll forget about listening to the audiobook and just go see the movie!
