I apologize for the lack of a links post yesterday, but I was off remembering that there is more to Carrie than “Mom of Natalie, Noah, Jonathan, and Josiah.” As a homeschooling mom, I get very little kid-free time. Fortunately, I have a husband who understands that kid-free time is necessary to my sanity, and enables me to take time for myself whenever I can squeeze it in.
Yesterday, I headed a half-hour south to my folks’ house for a sleepover. Mom and I played cribbage and Probe, Dad grilled the most delicious shish kebabs for dinner, and we all played Trivial Pursuit. I attended church with them this morning and drove home this afternoon, feeling refreshed. I probably could have used another couple of days, but I’ll take what I can get – and I feel energized to face the final three weeks of our homeschooling year.
I did get a little bit of reading done last night before I drifted off. Here are my current reads:
In print:
~ An Irish Country Christmas by Patrick Taylor
~ Joy for Beginners by Erica Bauermeister
~ Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin
~ The Map of Time by Felix J. Palma
On audio:
~ Red Glove by Holly Black
~ Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian (read by the delectable Simon Vance – I swear I could listen to this man read the phone book!)
I hope you are taking time to relax and refresh this weekend. And read, of course! Please leave a comment and tell me what books you’re relaxing with this weekend.

I was going to read The Informationist today by Taylor Stevens, but I ended up taking a nap instead and watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Tonight I might try to read something, but I haven’t decided what. I’ll probably get trapped by something on Netflix, though.
I wanted to read Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter and even had it out of the library on e-book one time, but didn’t get to it. I’ll be interested to hear what you think.

Bryan – Crooked Letter, etc. has me hooked already. You’ll have to wait a bit for my review, though, because my tour date isn’t until June 9th.

Kathy – I do, too! I used to play with my Grandmother all the time.
I think moms that homeschool are amazing. You deserve the break and I’m sure your back with renewed enthusiasm. I’ve been reading the Lonely Polygamist (I only read one book at a time, I’m old). It’s quite interesting.

Glad to hear that you’re feeling like yourself this week. As a mom, I know how hard it is to find some free time to relax. I hope you’re able to squeeze in more time for yourself before homeschooling is over. Today I’m reading Akata Witch by Nnede Okorafor. Have a great week.

V – oh, I loved her Who Fears Death, but that’s the only thing I’ve read by her. Is it good?

There’s a list of books I’m reading over at my blog.
Enjoy the last few weeks of your homeschooling year.

Glad to hear you got some much needed “me time”. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be a mom and a teacher at the same time!
