Okay, I know I don’t have an excuse for not putting up a links post yesterday, because I had a ton of time to myself this week. I’m not going to apologize, however. I thoroughly enjoyed my time alone – reading, writing a couple of blog posts, reading, watching Brothers and Sisters (I never did get around to Downton Abbey), reading, going out for dinner with my best friend, reading, etc. I finished all the books that I wanted to finish:
Next to Love by Ellen Feldman, Don’t Breathe a Word
by Holly Cupala, and The Secret Lives of People in Love: Stories
by Simon Van Booy in print; I Am the Messenger
by Markus Zusak and Revolution
by Jennifer Donnelly on audio.
Of course, I’m not one to let grass grow under my feet (or reading chair) when it comes to books, so I’m already in progress on a few more – the books I will be spending my Sunday with.
In print:
~ Remember Me by Cheryl Robinson
~ The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
~ The Soldier’s Wife by Margaret Leroy
~ The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld
On audio:
~ Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin
~ The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter – This is read by Scott Brick. I remember having a lengthy Twitter conversation with multiple bloggers who told me I must experience his narration. They were right – his voice is like chocolate and velvet and midnight. Mmmmmm……..
And now, since I do have links to share with you that I didn’t share yesterday….
Author news:
~ Author David McCullough appeared on The Colbert Report this week.
~ The Washington Post: Five myths about Jane Austen
Discussion starters:
~ Caribousmom: Climbing the blogging ladder
~ Bookalicious: I’ve been doing it wrong – Apparently, I have, too. Who knew that “professional” reviewers, who review for “real” publications, often don’t even read the entire book they are reviewing?!?
Reviews and blog posts that have me adding to my to-read list:
~ The First Husband by Laura Dave, reviewed by Amy at My Friend Amy
~ Ellis Island by Kate Kerrigan, reviewed by Heather at Book Addiction
~ My Dear I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young, reviewed by Bookfool at Bookfoolery and Babble
~ Instruments of Darkness by Imogen Robertson, reviewed by Swapna at S. Krishna’s Books
Other bookish links:
~ The Wall Street Journal: How Harry Saved Reading
~ Time: Top 10 Ways Harry Potter Will Live On
~ Awhile ago, I reviewed This Must Be the Place by Kate Racculia. I loved it, but mentioned in my review that I hated the cover. Well, the paperback edition was just released, and look how gorgeous the cover is!
Non-bookish links of interest:
~ The delightful Janet Batchler, whose blog Quoth the Maven I have been enjoying for a few years now, along with her husband and writing partner, Lee, has fantastic news. They have sold a screenplay about Paul Revere’s famous ride to Walt Disney Studios and Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil. Congratulations, Janet!

Yay alone time!

I’ll say it again, and will probably repeat myself over and over again, but I cannot even imagine how wonderful it would be to have alone time. I’m very envious! I hope you are enjoying Revolution…it enchanted me in a big way. Have you seen Harry Potter yet? We went Friday, and I wept of course. Poor Snape.

Sandy – I’m sure I will reciprocate the envy when the school year starts and I am trying to get my kids to buckle back down to math, language, history, etc.
We haven’t seen HP yet – going to go Tuesday afternoon, though – with a whole box of Kleenex!

At first I didn’t recognize the book by Kate Racculia, because the cover on mine (an ARC) was different. But I enjoyed that book.
I also enjoyed Alice I Have Been.
I’m eagerly awaiting my copy of Next to Love.

Ah, alone time. I’m a big fan of that. Hubby is a pilot and often people assume that I must hate it when he goes away but in actual fact it’s nice to have a short break of peace and quiet
Brilliant links, I love the discussion starter ones. Very good posts with lots of food for thought.
