The Sunday Salon – April 15, 2012

Well, our first week back to school after two weeks off is over. It happened. That’s about all I can say about it. :) Actually, after a rough couple days, the end of the week smoothed out. And it helps to know we only have 10 weeks left until summer break!

Kevin and I are going through TV withdrawals, as our Wii is at Nintendo for repairs, so no Netflix Watch Instantly. :( We tried a couple movies, but they were both bust – you’ll hear about them in my next ten-word movie reviews post. We have one disc of Community: Season Two, but I have to use our second disc for Babette’s Feast – remember, we will be discussing it here on the 27th for Film Club!

Last night, we had a Game Night at church – not a great turn-out, numbers-wise, but we still had an absolute blast. First time we have ever played PIT – and I nearly lost my voice! Today is church, then I’m sitting in on the Youth Band practice. After that, I’m hoping to get some reading done, and we’re watching War Horse tonight.

If I do get a chance to read today, here are the books I’ll be spending my time with.

In print:
~ The Demi-Monde: Winter by Matt Rees
~ Deadline by Mira Grant
~ The House at Tyneford by Natasha Solomons

On audio:
~ An Impartial Witness by Charles Todd
~ Plugged by Eoin Colfer

What are you reading today?

This week on the blog:
~ Read-along Discussion: The House at Tyneford by Natasha Solomons, part one
~ My ever-evolving top 100 books of all time
~ Book blogging apathy
~ Book Review: A Million Suns by Beth Revis

I just made a similar comment today about the number of weeks of school left. I get completely annoyed at it all by this point. I’m over the work, the teachers, the meetings, the events. Blah. But of course, after having no schedule all summer, I’m ready for school to start again in the fall.

Sandy – I’m the same way – ready to have less structure, but by the end of summer, we need our structure back so we don’t kill each other!

Too bad about your Wii. I hope you get it back soon. You have ten weeks left of school?! That’s crazy. I have about six weeks left though right after the semester is over, the new one starts up. Today I’m reading The Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett and doing homework. Have a great Sunday, Carrie.

I watched War Horse with my parents last weekend and we all really enjoyed it. It covers a lot of ground but its a wonderful story. Enjoy!

Colleen – I hope my kids like it – it’s a lot longer than the movies we usually watch for Family Movie Night.

Ah, not many more weeks until summer, then…that’s always a good thing, right?

I’m totally engrossed in a new Scottolini book called Come Home. Family stuff, mystery, etc.

Kathy – as much as I don’t want to think of homeschooling as a tunnel, it certainly feels that way this time of year! We are all so ready for a break – and I’m very glad that break is in sight. :)

  8. How’s Community? And ugh TV withdrawal. ;)

Amy – we absolutely loved the first season of Community! It’s quirky, funny, and different. The second season is off to a bit of a slow start, but we’re only two episodes in so far, so I’m holding out hope that it will hit its stride again.

I have to get my hands on Babette’s Feast! Which means I have to quit hording The Band Played On and return it to Netflix.
