The novelist Maurice Bendrix’s love affair with his friend’s wife, Sarah, had begun in London during the Blitz. One day, inexplicably and without warning, Sarah had broken off the relationship.
It seemed impossible that there could be a rival for her heart. Yet two years later, driven by obsessive jealousy and grief, Bendrix sends Pakris, a private detective, to follow Sarah and find out the truth.
I’m planning to read The End of the Affair in August for the Graham Greene Reading Challenge, and at least one person has expressed an interest in joining me, so that must mean it’s time for a read-along.
We’ll read the last three weeks in August, so that will give you a couple weeks to get a hold of a copy. If you’re at all interested in trying Greene, this would be a great book to dip your toes in, as it’s very short.
Here’s the reading and post schedule – please leave a comment and let me know if you plan on reading along with me.
Section one – discussion post on August 17th: Books 1 and 2
Section two – discussion post on August 24th: Books 3 and 4
Section three – discussion post on August 31st: Book 5

I read this book some time ago after enjoying the movie adaptation. It’s such a great book and one of my favorites. I’m tempted to re-read it just so I can join you but I’ve got so many other books I’m in the middle of right now. But I hope a lot of people join and I’ll at least be able to pseudo-participate by reading your discussions!
