Author news:
~ The Telegraph: Maeve Binchy – Ireland’s National Treausre – I was very sad to hear of the passing of Irish author Maeve Binchy. She was – and always will be – a favorite author of mine. Her books feed my genetic need to visit the homeland of my ancestors, and I have spent hundreds of vicarious hours in Ireland through her books.
~ Tor casts a hypothetical Neil Gaiman biopic – Interesting choices there!

Julie – I loved The Financial Lives of Poets when I read it a couple years ago – it was really funny and fantastically written.
It was a sad day indeed, when our Maeve Binchy passed away. I’ll miss her desperately.

Another vote for Beautiful Ruins, Carrie. I’m listening to it at audiobooks.com currently and enjoying it. My oldest daughter left for Dallas yesterday so I’m a “grieving” mom now.
Happy for her but sad for me. ha-ha Hope your week has gone well.

I loved Natalie’s suggestions for The Stand, EXCEPT for Viggo. I can’t handle him being the Walking Dude, because then I’d have to be on his side. And I did download Beautiful Ruins on my Kindle. I just need to, like, read faster.

Sandy – I haven’t read The Stand, but did watch the original mini-series, and I don’t want to see Viggo do that either. Shudder.
I enjoy your weekly bookish links Carrie. And was also saddened by the news of Maeve Binchy. Guess I need to think about reading Beautiful Ruins if everyone is high on it.

I’m so sorry I missed this! Thanks for linking to my letter to Mr. Affleck; I hope he pays attention! Although, I am with you and Sandy, too, about Viggo. I was up in the air on that one since I just think he is incredible and it would be tough to see him be a really disturbing thing, entity, pure evil. I think he’d be great but oh, man – my views of him would surely change!
