Time: 10:07 p.m., Saturday evening. The house is starting to quiet down as one by one people head off to bed. We had a ton of fun at the Usk aquatic center today; we took both vans over full of our four kids, plus five of their friends. Kevin’s van – the older one – had a problem on the way home, when the serpentine belt broke and he lost power steering. He was able to limp into town and get the van to the house. Fortunately, the part seems to be fairly inexpensive and this is one fix he can do himself. We were very grateful that it happened on the way back into town, and not while we were going over the mountain!
Eating: Pop Secret light microwave popcorn
Drinking: Fruit Punch flavored Crystal Light
Reading: Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett; The Lady’s Maid by Dilly Court; The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison; City of Dark Magic by Magnus Flyte; and Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief by Lawrence Wright. Yes, I went a bit overboard, but two books came in to the library for me, and because they are new acquisitions, I can only check them out for two weeks. So I dove in and am trusting I can finish on time.
Recently finished reading: The Welsh Girl by Peter Ho Davies; and Agatha Raisin and the Love From Hell by M.C. Beaton
Listening to: May the Road Rise Up to Meet You by Peter Troy; and Once by Morris Gleitzman
Recently finished listening to: Shadow People by James Swain
Blogging recently: Mini-reviews: Remembering by Wendell Berry; Obedience by Will Lavender; and Left Neglected by Lisa Genova and Mini-reviews: Girls in Trucks by Katie Crouch; The Cradle by Patrick Somerville; and Requiem by Lauren Oliver
Thankful for: Generous friends who are paying for Natalie’s college textbooks for Running Start next year; that Kevin’s van waited until we were back in town to break down; that I am almost done with my lesson planning; and that we still have three weeks of summer vacation left.
What are you reading, listening to, or grateful for this Sunday?
