Favorite contemporary fiction of 2013

These are books that I read in 2013, but were not necessarily published in 2013. The quotes are from my reviews, which are linked to the titles.

mebeforeyou
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes: “I loved this book from beginning to end, and I haven’t cried so hard while reading a book in a long, long time. I now want to read everything Jojo Moyes has ever written.”

lookingforme
Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman: “During the course of the book, Teddi comes to some realizations about herself, her relationship with her mother, and the disappearance of her brother. Her journey is so real, and each character who walks alongside her is a joy as well. The characters breathed their existence onto the pages, showing me who they were and helping to reveal who Teddi was. While Beth is as good as ever at writing setting, it is the people of Looking for Me who had me turning page after page, not wanting to stop.”

reconstructing
Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight: “t is a terrifying read in many ways, especially if you are the mother of a teenage daughter and under the assumption that you know your daughter well. This is a must-read; just make sure that you have plenty of uninterrupted time when you start it!”

someoneelse
Someone Else’s Love Story by Joshilyn Jackson: “Oh, Joshilyn Jackson, how I love thee! Let me count the ways…”

I loved Me Before You, too! The other three are on my list.

  7. Almost every blog I’ve visited with a post about top books they have read for 2013 has Me and You by Jojo Moyes! It must be really good! I definitely should check that out next year. I’m also interested in Reconstructing Amelia. It sounds intriguing and I heard it’s going to be turned into a movie soon.

Five-Eyed Bookworm – I heard that about Amelia, too – it should be interesting as a film.
