The Sunday Salon – March 2, 2014 (plus, wrapping up February’s reading)

sundaysalon2Time: 7:06 p.m., Saturday evening. Hating the fact that it is snowing like the dickens outside.

Thankful for: Longer days. A spring that will come – eventually. Good books. Next year’s curriculum, which, thanks to a tax refund, is all paid for and sitting in a box waiting for lesson planning during the summer.

Looking forward to: Watching The Oscars tonight.

Reading: City of Lost Dreams by Magnus Flyte; State of Wonder by Ann Patchett; Black Chalk by Christopher J. Yates; One Hundred Names by Cecilia Ahern

Recently finished reading: Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell; and White Dog Fell From the Sky by Eleanor Morse (review coming this week)

Listening to: The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry

Watching: Last Sunday’s movie was Natalie’s pick – Music and Lyrics. Plus, Grey’s Anatomy came back this week! I am so glad (SPOILER ALERT) April chose Jackson.

I’m really looking forward to the Oscars too. I doubt I will make it to the end, but there is some good competition this year. I just finished the second Raven Cycle book…I’m really liking these characters (and Will Patton). These days we’ve been obsessing over Game of Thrones. I just want to binge-watch it ALL.

Sandy – I haven’t watched GOT past season 1. Hard to find time to watch in a house full of people – not one I’ll watch with the kids or my parents around!

Ugh to the snow. I am so over winter. It’s pretty warm here today but it’s supposed to get cold before the week is out.

Kathy – I know what you mean – winter is dragging on way too long. We got several more inches of snow today!

  3. Beth Hoffman says:

Hasn’t this winter been awful? We’re supposed to get an ice storm today followed by a foot of snow!

Beth – a foot? And on top of ice- that is the worst. Stay warm – and safe!

  4. I have Eleanor & Park on my shelf of books from the library, but who knows when I’ll get to it. Maybe this week.

I’m not watching the Oscars, and so far only have seen one of the movies, Dallas Buyers Club. Based on that limited experience, I’m pulling for McConaughey (sp?) and Leto, but if someone else wins in those categories, that’s okay too. They already won the Golden Globes, I think, in their respective categories.

Bryan – you called it for Matthew and Jared! And do you remember how everyone was telling you to read The Fault in Our Stars, and then you did, and wow? Well, that’s Eleanor and Park. Don’t wait – just read it.

I’m so over this winter weather! Just came in from shoveling, again, and am ready for tea and a book. Hope you’re enjoying State of Wonder.

JoAnn – I am enjoying State of Wonder! Not very far in yet, but so far, so good.

I would like more winter because we are in a drought. I want to see the Oscars for the clothes , but I didn’t see that many movies this year. Oh I need to read that 100 Names by Cecelia :0) Yes very thankful for refunds too

Julie – The only Best Picture nominee I saw was Gravity, which I enjoyed. I do love watching for the clothes, though. And I’m glad Matthew M. won, even though I haven’t seen the film. :)

You had a good reading month, enjoy the Oscars, I so no movies.

  8. Kailana says:

I am not sure how much of the weather down there we are supposed to see up here. It snowed a bit today, but not a lot.

Kelly – I am SO over snow and cold! Like my kids said, “Why couldn’t we have had this at Christmas-time?”

  9. Michelle says:

I stayed up to watch the Oscars even though I hadn’t seen a single movie and really could care less who did or did not win. Ellen did a fantastic job but it went on forever. They could have cut at least an hour out of the program and not lost all that much.

Yep. Four inches of snow on Saturday. An inch on Friday. Another predicted inch or two tonight. Dammit!
