The Sunday Salon – July 6, 2014 (plus, wrapping up June’s reading)

sundaysalon2Lately: It’s been a good, busy week. I worked at church a couple more days, and then on Thursday we took the kids to the lake for the afternoon. Friday afternoon we went to a BBQ at a friend’s house, and stayed for fireworks. The kids had a lot of fun, and it was loud. 🙂 I did have fun visiting with friends from church, even though the fireworks aren’t really my thing. We’ve got a busy week of more fun planned ahead – trying to fit in some outings while my nephew is here.

Reading: American Gods by Neil Gaiman; The Fever by Megan Abbott; and Evergreen by Rebecca Rasmussen

Recently finished reading: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

Watching: We watched the new Robocop last Sunday for Family Movie Night, and we watched Escape Plan this week, too. Both are very entertaining popcorn flicks. Tonight it is Natalie’s turn to pick, and so we are watching Catching Fire. Again.

We had a busy week too. I’m ready for things to slow down a little.

  2. Fireworks aren’t your thing and Catching Fire again is a bad thing? Or at least that’s what it sounded like. It’s like I don’t know you at all. 😉 Hope this coming week goes well with your nephew and you find some good things amongst the days. 🙂

Bryan – I like looking at fireworks, but the noises….not so much. As for Catching Fire, I do like it – I would have rather watched something I hadn’t already seen, though. 🙂

I can’t believe you’re reading American Gods! I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it. What did you guys think of the new Robocop? I think I’m probably still traumatized for the old one to watch it. 🙂

    Enjoy your week!

The Fever seems to be a very popular reading choice lately… will be curious to hear what you think.

We’ve had so many family activities this past week, I’ve barely read a couple of chapters in my current books. Hope to make a little more progress this week.

JoAnn – I finished The Fever yesterday. It’s a real page-turner, and slightly disturbing.
